Default Lyrics or Music First?

I know Mr. Jon has said it, but I can't remember which one came first (according to him anyway). Can anyone assist?

Thanks

Jim

Jon says that he always starts with the title. That gives him the concept and outline of the song.

Maybe that's why he has the damned longest song titles in rock LOL.

Yeah I've always thought that was a cool way. Wonder how the Something For The Pain/I've Been Loving You To Long To Turn Back Now would have sounded LOL. That's no hit

Ok....but he did state it was either lyrics or music first?

And what's with the Arms Wide Open/Open Arms fetish? Is it a shout out to Journey?

Which is why he has the best Chicken Game songs in rock! I mean, how can you beat "Janie, Don't Take Your Chicken to Town"? Or "As My Chicken Lies Bleeding in My Arms"?

I'd imagine that from a title they generally develop lyrics and basic melody pretty much together, although thats probably not always the case

And the band have an unfortunate tendency to re-use phrases they like ... see my rant on Lost Highway in New Releases for some good examples!
