Had anyone heard of Matt O'Ree before joining Bon Jovi? Since he toured, now all of a sudden I see on FB, fantastic; oh he is so great, this is going to be fantastic!! etc etc. From people who probably didn't know who he was before. Same with Phil before he did the Circle Tour. I hadn't heard of him but yet he got the same treatment. Now that Phil joined the band, he can do no wrong. Is it really a case where people heard of these guitar players or you join Bon Jovi, you must be fantastic.

I wasn't familiar with Matt at all prior to him being announced. Phil was a guitarist I'd follow online and watch his youtube tutorials and guitar videos. I was pretty jazzed to hear he got the gig and I'm still not entirely sure his style fits but I love the energy he brings to the band.

I am from New jersey and I still live here and I have known about him for quite some time. If you listen to local music - you will hear him. Kinda like Bobby Bandiera, I have been listening to him since the mid 1980s but once he was tapped for Jovi he has become a big star.

Lol, seems like I'm the only one that thinks Phil fits right in with the band. Sure, he comes more from the Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen school of Shredding than the Clapton, Page and Sambora school of blues based leads but I think he hasn't missed a beat. It remains to be seen what (if any) leads he can come up with in a Jovi song but as far as playing Richie's parts he's mostly nailed them. The only complaint I have is his talkbox sound, the dude needs more bass and overdrive on it, it sounds too thin, trebley and compressed.....

I guess nobody listened to his radio shows?

DOA with David Bryan on lead vox

Quote:
Bryan sang lead on a rendition of the Bon Jovi hit, “Wanted Dead or Alive,” and then performed a new song, "My Everything is You," co-written with O’Ree that delivered a funky blues-rock sound with plenty of groove.

It’ll be on O’Ree’s upcoming solo album.

O'Ree said he is not sure whether he will be touring with Bon Jovi in the future; the band hasn't issued a statement on either Bandiera or O'Ree's status.

The advertising business prefers the term "top of mind awareness," LOL. But O'Ree is very much doing the right thing by exploiting his fifteen minutes both financially and publicity-wise. Of course he has no idea what his future holds with Bon Jovi: not so much because he was merely a substitute touring guitarist (Bobby joined Jon in Dallas, which suggests that animosity did not play a role in his not doing the Asian mini-tour) but because Bon Jovi doesn't know what their future holds, either!
