Default McGee on music: Why Bon Jovi are mythic New Jersey artists

As some of you may or may not know, ex-Creation Records boss Alan McGee regularly writes a music-orientated column for The Guardian newspaper here in the UK. His latest article is called 'McGee on music: Why Bon Jovi are mythic New Jersey artists' and can be read here:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musi...ovi-new-jersey

"I truly believe Jon Bon Jovi deserves critical recognition for his abilities as a world-class songwriter, but instead people focus on the
poppy hair-metal genre in which he previously worked."

Nice to see some genuine good press!

(sorry if this has already been posted!!)

the responses by the general public are appalling. Why do people have such a negative reaction to Bon Jovi?

Good article. Nice to see them getting a little positive press for once.

Why do you give a shit? You like something other people don't. That makes you cooler than them.

I love the reply "Prayer wasn't written by Bon Jovi, it was written by Desmond Child." What a moron. Yes, he co-wrote the song. Didn't write it on his own.

This is my firm belief - At this stage in Bon Jovi's career, it has become passe to simply put them down for their hair or Jon's looks. It's all been said and done, and the people saying that crap know damn well, if their wasn't substance there, they'd not still be around and relative. So, they simply have no other option anymore other than to take shots at that substance.

One of the responses to that article is by me.... and I still stand by it, Bon Jovi have not recorded a "complete" album since These Days.
These Days remains the only BJ album I can listen to from start to finish, without skipping tracks. It's the only album that doesn't get removed from my MP3 player when I decide new music is needed.

I can't listen to Lost Highway at all anymore!

I'm hoping the recent (last few albums) formula of 2 heavy tracks, 6 mediocre and 2/3 ballads is dropped this time around.
Am hoping for 8 heavy(ish) tracks and one or 2 heavy ballads, none of the wimpy crap they've made us suffer recently (You Want to Make a Memory).
