I don't agree with Ugly being pointless at all. I agree that it isn't the most well put together song, but, if you really listen to the words, it makes you realize that you are your own worst enemy. Everbody has days (or longer) that they feel unattractive, physically or otherwise, and this song reminds me that it's only me beating myself up - my friends and family think I am a beautiful person inside and out - no matter what.

"You'd wish you were as beautiful as you" I love that line!!

KTF!
I totally agree that the song Ugly reminds people that they are only beating up on themselves. Especially in today's society where we are told that a certain dress size or name brand makes you beautiful.

I also don't think that any song is pointless. These songs and the lyrics obviously mean something to someone even if we cannot relate to every Bon Jovi song released. And this idea is also subjective. What I might think is a meaningful song, someone else may feel the opposite.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?????

"They said we fight for their freedom,
but I felt like hired hand"

This is "Born in the USA" in a more simple version but also very "aware" for a young band.

Great point Stranger. I actually thought the same today when I was listening to the song in my car.

I cannot stand lyrics written as if it comes from a preacher. To me preaching is meaningless, e.g. Next 100 Years. But I absolutely love it when a songwriter shares his thoughts with fans without preaching, e.g. Something to Believe In. The line between preaching and sharing is easy to cross. And I believe I'm such a big fan of Bon Jovi because Bon Jovi rarely preach. Mostly they share.
