Default Metal Sludge review of Bounce!!!

Hey all I read this review on metal-sludge.com and thought it was a good review.

BON JOVI "Bounce"
by Donna Anderson

Cover: 4 aging rockers out of 10.
Well Bon Jovi is not known for having great album covers and they are not going to change now. This album cover features a black and white (with a silver cast) photo of a large satellite out in the desert with lightening in the background. Basically it's taken right from their video "Everyday". And while the lightening looks really cool in the video it doesn't really do much in black and white on the album cover.

Booklet: 9 firm asses' in tight jeans out of 10.
Now the booklet is where they dropped some cash. It's loaded with color photos, complete lyrics, and some fancy ass paper/art stuff with their logo and album cover repeated again inside. The photos inside are evenly split between individual photos and band photos; sorry girls it's not the Jon Bon Jovi photo spectacular inside. It's no big surprise that Hugh McDonald (the bands unofficial bass player for approx. 10 years) is not included in the photos but he doesn't even get a "thank you". He is mentioned as playing bass but that's it; he doesn't get a thank you section nor does any of the members of the band thank him. However Jon thanks everyone from his family, fans, music business people, and Paul Tagliabue and the entire NFL. WTF?!? Is Jon trying to make sure he has football tickets to any an all games whenever he needs them?

Songs: 6 musicians turned actors out of 10.
This is a hard one to rate. This album is not going to please a lot of people. It's definitely not a Slippery When Wet; it's not a "commercial" album. It covers such a wide range of music types but it's not filled with Bon Jovi bubble gum pop. Maybe it's because they were literally writing songs for the album when the planes crashed into the World Trade Center on 9/11. It's not as though the album is filled with depressing songs (cuz it's not) but it seems like the songs they put on this albums were songs to please them; not radio, not their record company, and maybe not even their fans. If their fans get it - great; if not I don't think it'll really bother them that much. I'll try to break down a few of the songs for you. "Undivided" - This is the only clear song about 9/11, it's a very aggressive song about everyone coming together regardless of your beliefs or race to stand united."Everyday" - most of you should have heard this one by now, it's probably one of the few upbeat songs on the album that will be released as a single everything else is either a ballad or not very radio friendly (except maybe "Bounce"). "Joey" is a very unusual song I think it would make a more interesting story for a movie than it does a song. Who knows now that Jon is writing movies maybe that's where it came from.
"Right Side of Wrong" - this is the only one that was written just by Jon and it sounds like it should have been on his Young Guns II album- nuff said. "Love Me Back To Life" - is a very powerful song for anyone going through a rough time in their life. "You Had Me From Hello" - this one has Richie Sambora written all over it. It's a little more bluesy than anything else on the album and it's lyrics are very similar to a lot of the love songs he's had on his solo albums. "Bounce" - my favorite song on the album, probably because it's the most rockin' and has the most attitude.

Comments: The cd does offer other perks for the die hard Jovi fan including you can register your cd (each one has it's own serial #) and then you will be able to pre-purchase Bon Jovi concert tickets and get specials exclusives to those who register. If you appreciate good music made from the heart or are a true die hard fan than give this one a shot. If you just want to relive your high school days than go buy a can of Aqua-Net and listen to Slippery When Wet and leave this one on the shelf.

I dedicate the very last sentence of this review to all the so called "long time fans" who bashed Bounce just because it wasn't a slypery part 2 or a these days part two.
because it's exactly what I would say.

Damn right dude. I've said it myself, Bounce wasn't the new Slippery, but they never promised it would be.

Good on yoU!

Yeah, that's a pretty good review, Javier. It's fair if nothing else. A few thumbs up, a few thumbs down... No complaints here.

And I agree with you on the SWW thing. We can't expect the guys to always be the same.
