I'd say insanely successful, yes. Being that popular for 25+ years counts as insanely successful, at least in my book.

In my book "Insanely" ranks higher than "Extremely". There are a ton of acts that share the same success levels as the Peppers. I'd say they are Extremely successful but Insanely successful would be Michael Jackson, Madonna, Springsteen, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, Elvis.

The Peppers don't even have a #1 hit (3 top 10) and only have one #1 album

They've sold over 82 million albums worldwide. In any world that's insanely successful.

A little food for thought: Even if an album comes out in 2012 (which i doubt is likely) the break would be almost exactly the same as that between KTF and TD.

1992: KTF released
1993-1994: Touring, GH released.
1995: TD released.

2009: The Circle released.
2010-2011: Touring, GH released
2012: New Record (?)

If that doesn't show the the length of break doesn't really mean anything, for better or worse, i don't know what does.

Compared to the amount of albums I sold it is but compared to other acts it's not that insane.

This is Insane:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._music_artists

The Beatles and Elvis selling 1 Billion Albums, That's Freakin Insane!!!!

And if you're getting that 82M number from Wikipedia Discography, it's BS. Look where they stand on the link I provided. It's about 2/3 your figure which seems about right.

50 million which is Extremely Well. Not Insane

Very good point. I was about to say exactly the same few days before just took a break for Easter. Just to add some fuel. Take a look at this:

1985 - 7800 Fahrenheit
1986 - Slippery When Wet
1988 - New Jersey

By logic of some people over here, it would mean that SWW should be total crap (only 1 year break), or NJ too (“only” 2 year break).

By the time the new album comes up it will be 3 years at least which is more than enough. But anyway, just like I’ve said before – I think it’s not about time at all, it’s about what’s in their hearts only, and their discography has proven that already. Music is not mathematics. You can’t calculate its quality using some magical equation. I also don’t like everything they do nowadays but I respect it and still I always find some outstanding songs in any of their albums.

Whether some of us like it (I personally LOVE it) or not, TC is exactly what’s in the heart of 50 something year old men with a lot of life experience on their shoulders. Take a look at Jon’s latest interview for Oprah and you will understand why they make albums like that. They are who they are now, they won’t change themselves, they won’t change their style drastically and will not copy Foo Fighters or anyone else, they write about things that they think are important…and I say Thank God for that.

But the main benefit of a break, is they desperately need to reinvent themselves and their sound right now. We need a big reinvention! Drastic measures, like NJ to KTF or These Days to Crush... which based on the past takes 4-5 years.

(It is debatable) But also Keep the Faith is a far superior record compared to the Circle (as are the bonus tracks on Crossroads compared to GH). They were coming off a great record... the greatness was still running through their veins.

You're comparing apples to oranges. It's not the time between albums but basic economics 101 supply and demand. That's what determines the break period.

I´m looking foward to the RS solo record.

meanwhile, there is a bounch of greats new albums out there.
If you like melodic hard rock / A.OR style. listen H.E.A.T, Sunstorm, Reckless Love and White Widdow. New bands with fresh 80s sound

I don't think that the length of time has anything to do with quality of music. I believe it's the events that happen during a period of time, that form the quality of songwriting and structure of music.
I really hope that Richie's album kicks ass because it might inspire Jon to push himself and the band to make an even greater album!
