People thought that naming the CD "Bounce" was a mistake, but it hasn't seemed to hurt their sales yet. Sometimes, we as fans, THINK we have an inside track, but we do not. Misunderstood is one of those songs that becomes more and more likable the more you hear it. I've played the CD for some non-die-hard-fans and they LIKE that song. What it boils down to is promotion and airplay. It doesn't matter all that much what the band releases as long as it gets on the radio. There are some truly BAD songs out there that are hits because they get airplay. Does anyone remember "Just a Friend" by Bizmarke? LOL Radio can take the most unradiofriendly song and turn it into a hit just by putting it on every hour. Enya keeps having hits and she doesn't really fit in a Top 40 format. What about that Nelly and Kelly duet called Dilema... it has to be one of the most ANNOYING songs ever recorded with that repetitive "Oh" in the background, but it's played nonstop and has gone to #1. Just because you don't like something or it's not your personal favorite track from a CD doesn't mean it can't be a hit. Someone is buying all those Nelly CDs.

If the second single has to be a ballad I think it's the best choice... But I want Undivided to be the next single!

Right, Misunderstood isn't the best choice, but it's still better than e.g. Say it isn't so, this was real shit.
I don't think it's Jon who decides which song comes next as a single, I think it's the record company....but, people, who are no Bon Jovi Fans, will get a wrong impression of the album, if they only choose the weak songs.

I think Misunderstood will do well in charting. To increase record sales this is a very good choice. It's a pop-rock song and that is what the commercial majority wants to listen to, catchy lovely pop-rock.
Bounce is a good song, but I would NEVER release it as a single. It would be perfect for giving the critics a reason to write bad comments about BJ. Bounce is only an It's My Life rip-off. I like the song, but it's too obvious.

ktf, Johannes

Not sure about this - with a band the size of BJ the record company are usually quite accomodating. BJ will almost certainly be able to veto a single if they don't want to release it even if they can't select the actual single themselves.

yeah i totally agree , i think the distance or love me back to life or bounce should have been released. although i do think that most people who are gonna buy the album have bought it already. they have never done that well in the charts anyway so the next single aint that important. thats my opinion anyway.

I really like Misunderstood. But maybe it isn't the best track to put out. At first I thought Bounce would be a good single but now I'm thinking The Distance would do quite well. This song is growing on me more and more, but that is the same with Misunderstood.

Well, I guess we have to wait and see if Misunderstood is a mistake. I personally would go with The Distance myself. But I am not a Def Jam A&R person.

Does it really matter what the next single is? I personally like this song but I wouldn't care what they released as the next single....have you heard the rubbish that gets played over here? Whatever track they release...it won't get airplay on Radio One and Two. The only reason that they do so well in the charts without any airplay is because of the massive fan base they have got.
I'm not bothered about where they chart over here...as far as I'm concerned it means nothing!!
Just my opinion.
