One question,

When did the critics ever like Bon Jovi? In the 80's they weren't taken seriously because they were a supposed "hair band." Now, they are considered a washed up "hair band" by some critics.

I mean the critics have never been kind to BJ. I doubt they ever will be. That is why I don't read half of the crap that is written up about them.

Yeah, Jon's are a hell of a lot better. Besides that, Richie's only written THREE songs by himself, so how do you know his solo albums are written predominately by him or by his collaborators? You can't even judge Richie as a solo lyricist because he primarily collaborates with other people.

What it amounts too is a lot of fans want to blame Jon for anything they don't like and want to herald Richie for anything they do. It's hypocritical. If people don't like Richie's solos, it's Jon's fault. If Richie's solos are too short, it's Jon's fualt irreguardless of the fact that some of his longest solos are on songs Jon wrote alone and that Richie is under the impression that some of his best guitar work is on Bounce which he calls a guitar-heavy album. If you accept that they work TOGETHER, as they say they do, you have to give them both credit or criticize them both.

HELLO!!!!! who said that cliches are bad in rock music???? Cliches enhanse rock music, so the fact that Jon is the number 1 cliche writter should be taken as a possitive, not negative!!!

firstly becky, i'm not into the needless, and at times frankly ludicrous, bashing of jon, but IN MY OPINION, there are a number of songs which have jon all over them and they are mainly songs that I don't like...this is just my opinion, you are free to think whatever you want.

lol mike c'mon.....

"change, everybody's feeling strange, never gonna be the same..."

.....and a number of others in the same vain....they hardly rank alongside the great 'cliches' (if you want to call them that) of jagger or dylan do they?

CLICHE!! I've always loved that word!

Anyways, let them use their cliche lyrics. Bon Jovi makes them rock...sometimes...somewhat...not always...could be a little better...but the boys still rock!

Because Becky my dear, look at the article

Quote:
MOST CLICHED LYRICS: The King of Cliches, Jon Bon Jovi, wins this one hands down. In his song, "Everyday", he sings: "I'm gonna touch the sky, Spread these wings and fly..." and then adds, "Change, everbody's feeling strange, Never gonna be the same." Nice work, Jon. You're really giving Bryan Adams some competition in the cliche-writing department

The article is referring to Jon, why mention Richie? To bring Richie into the 'argument' would be incorrect seeing as he isnt mentioned in the article

But Richie co-wrote the song. You can bet your life savings that had the article been saying Jon was a great songwriter based on those lyrics, people would jump in with that fact. It shows hypocrisy among fans.

you quoted me in your original posting, not the article, thus implying it was aimed at myself, hence my explanation
