WWBTF and LITOR, the only two good songs in TC.

I have released BPL followed by LTOR. They are two obvious single choices. WWBTF is just the same as every other lead single of the last 5 albums.

WWBTF was a good first choice, it was catchy and people like catchy shit.

ST bombed because it was crap.

They should have released BPL.

I doubt if milking an album dry by pushing half of the songs as singles is a priority for the Bon Jovi camp these days. They did it until "These Days", but have only been releasing three singles worldwide for Crush onwards. In the U.S., its mostly been two singles from each album. I remember an interview in 2000 when Jon said that they won't be releasing more than 2-3 singles off an album any longer.

All the currently popular younger rock & pop acts are still releasing and aggressively pushing 5-6 singles from their albums. U2 used to do the same until their last album. I don't know why Bon Jovi chose otherwise as they can easily pay their record company many times over the promo money they owe them (in case) even if the singles fail. They used to follow the strategy of releasing different songs to rock and pop radio, and then songs with cross-over appeal to both formats. Not any longer. And a Bon Jovi single hasn't been pushed at Top 40 format since "Misunderstood", which was a sizeable radio hit on both Top 40 and Hot AC formats. Surprising??

In the U.S., I think they started making odd choices for singles starting with Keep the Faith album, i.e. skipping I Believe and releasing Sleep instead. Then not releasing Hey God etc.

Personally I would have liked them to release a song like TIMS or Bullet to rock radio, releasing LTOR as the lead single and seriously pushing Superman. Sadly it seems they won't be releasing any more singles from TC.

I disagree totally.

WWBTF killed The Circle, it is a weak song with filler written all over it. These days the first single makes or breaks an album. The sales figures just go to prove that.

ST bombed because the record company didn't back it fully. I's ten times the song WWBTF is.

The problem, which they are just getting to grips with, is with new media and music buying patterns. Bon Jovi were always an old-school physical CD-buying fanbase and when downloads came in they floundered big time.
They have started to address this now with their FB and Twitter, they just need to exploit the download market more and give the fans value- push the envelope on what is eligible to make the single chart- if you can have 3 different versions of the same song then release an edit, album and live version on itunes.
Over here in the UK they seem to take the same promo route- Radio wise its Absolute and Radio 2, they seem to bypass commercial radio which is a bad move. They should be getting on Radio 1- its possible as proved last year. Heart/Magic should be smack bang in their demographic but they rarely play them.
TV Wise- X Factor was a good move, if a forgettable performance, but getting on the biggest ratings winner by far is never a bad move. Get on XF/Strictly, do the early morning shows BBC/Daybreak and get on any show that will have them- especially Top Gear! And Music videos are crucial- the new songs are never shown on anything other than a rare appearance on VH1 or VH1 Classic. They need them on the MTV channels and all the other music stations. Repetition works! They need saturation coverage!

To add I think the singles from TC should have been:

WFTWM or WWBTF
TIMS
BPL or WWWB

For Working Man, the general public really arent as critical of lyrics or meaning for Bon Jovi as we are here so it probably wouldnt have bombed as much as people say, with the right video it could well have struck a chord.
I think you could make a case for a lot of the songs, its just the promo that needs overhauling. They can go full out for single 1 then just release the videos for the rest just to ensure they get recognised by the record-buying public.

Lately, Iīve gotten very cynical when it comes to the success of single releases. It started even in the 90īs when Aerosmith got a big hit with IDWTMAT. They are such a fine rock band, yet the most commercially succesfull song of theirs in the last 20 years is a ballad written by Diane Warren. Writing a good rock song has very little to do with getting chart success.

I agree, Bon Joviīs problem is promotion. These days, poor songs become great hits and vice versa. Itīs all in the marketing. If one hears a catchy tune on the radio for a few times, one sort of grows to like it. This thing has very little to do with talent.

WWWB is a great song that I love but it's in no way single material as far as radio goes.
They could have done the different singles in different formats thing bands like Nickelback do with their albums.

Release Love's the only rule as leading single.
Then as a second single release Superman for pop radio and Thorn in my side for rock radio. I'm no expert it's just a strategy that could work for them since their albums cover different styles.....
^ This!

There is hardly any promotion from record co when it comes to Bon Jovi
I rarely get emails about Bon jovi related stuff from island Records but tons of emails regarding their other artists Bieber Rihana and others
So there is no way for a casual fan to know about the album since there is hardly any promotion
Probably same goes around in other countries too with Universal music
