No. Have you ever tried watching a NTSC-video on a TV that doesn't support that? Or PAL on an NTSC TV? It's about the TV. PAL system has 25 images per second, in two fields, creating about 50Hz field. 625 lines per image with Color Sub Carrier at 4.433618 MHz and Video Bandwidth of 5.0 MHz and Sound Carrier of 5.5 MHz.

NTSC uses 60 images per second, (60Hz), 525 lines per image with Color Subcarrier Frequency at 3.579545 MHz, Video Bandwidth of 4.2 MHz and
Sound Carrier of 4.5 MHz.

If you understood anything, you'd see that it's about the TV not being able to show the image.

It's with the player. For example what do you do with VCR's when in Europe you want to play a NTSC-video. You'll buy a NTSC VCR and not a tv from the US. Like i did to see my NTSC video bootlegs.
That doesn't help if the TV can't show it. I have a PAL/NTSC VCR, but on TV's that don't support NTSC, it shows as static or poor black&white image.

The difference between a video & a dvd is that a video would play but can't read so you simply see nothing, although the tape is rolling. a dvd is digital and can't ''broadcast'' or read and gives the message.
You don't know too much about DVD's or digital media in general, do you?

You've bought bad players then.

Same the other way around.

Well sorry to burst your bubble but YOU are wrong with what comes to european vcr's playing ntsc, them vcrs convert ntsc signal to pal. though, most newer european tvs are able to play ntsc just fine. American tvs generally aren't pal compatible. so, no matter how much u curse or pray, most (or all) U.S. tv's just can't handle pal signal even if their dvd players could. But why would amercians even want any european s**T anyway, since everything is sooooooo much better in U.S. anyway.....
