ok picture this, you're in a band and you're going to play in a stadium with 50,000 people as your audience.
They are there to see you play, which one is a fan and which one is an average joe??
Could you really tell or would the light keep you shy of true visibility of every one persons face during a show??
How could you be able to tell which ones have all of your back catalog and which ones have just your greatest hits or the latest album?
I don't think they choose to play for the average joe or the die hard fans, they choose to play for the people inside that stadium/arena and in that mindset whatever gets them wild goes.
It's what any band would do.

...and regarding the original post, no matter how much the fans that are in your circle and mine don't like say it isn't so or missunderstood the band is obviously proud of those songs.

Remember when Say it isn't so was gonna be the first single of crush??

When it comes to Bon Jovi they're sort off missing the interaction with what fans would like. Every setlist Bon Jovi has on a any night contains one or two songs fans absolutely don't want to hear when visiting a concert. I'm thinking about playing Mystery Train, Say It Isn't So, Misunderstood, Capt. Crash, those sort of songs.
That makes No sense because Alot of us whom have seen the band mulitple times, are tired of hearing Songs like Bad Medicine, Shout and a few others, doesn't mean another fan Maybe sick of another song. How do they decide which ones NOT to play then? Every fan has their own perception of songs they are "sick" of. Not EVERY fan is sick of them though. You could be a fan for 20 years, have never seen the band live, and WANT to hear all you can. I have seen the band enough now that I can say " Gees I am so sick of this song". But the guy sitting next to me, maybe has never seen them live and wants to hear the song. Not exactly fair to him now is it?

By the way, It's not Just Bon Jovi that fans have this issue. A Diehard fan of ANY Band that has seen them live multiple times, wishes for a difference. 99% of bands out there, IE: Bruce, Motley Crue, Matchbox 20 and various others Play a basic setlist every night, and play other stuff as well. Maybe Jovi is a BIT more predictable, but it still has to be, to some extent for the guy who has never seen them before. It wouldn't be fair to him either if he went to the show, and never heard 80% of the songs being played. Would he have a good time? I doubt it.

Please don't come up with "I like Mystery Train, or I like Misunderstood" because it's obvious that almost everyone fan thinks that those songs are the worst songs Bon Jovi has made since 2000. I'm saying almost everyone, as I like Mystery Train. Please don't let this topic become an "I like Mystery Train too!" thing.
How do you gauge every one Sebastiaan? This board and others do not represent the WHOLE fan community. I hate Mystery Train, it's too slow for me. But I do like Misunderstood. Different Tastes..

But what's the use in playing songs no one wants?
Again, who is no one????????? Because 200 people around here including myself are Sick of the Bad RX/ Shout combo, That makes Everyone who is gonna enter that Venue for the evening? Like it or not and I don't like it but I deal, It DOES get people on their feet and dancing, you gotta admit it.

I really can't think of any band playing songs the crowd doesn't like except for Bon Jovi.
As I said, Motley Crue, U2, Bruce, Matchbox 20. People do complain about their setlists as well, The Diehards do. Maybe not so Much Motley right now as it has been so long since they hit the road and Most of US fans are just so glad to see them on the road and touring and orginal memembers, we are taking what we are getting and being happy, But LOTS of other bands have this issue where the DIEHARDS get sick of hearing the same song. If ya see 20 shows a tour, your bound to get sick of some of the songs. No Matter what band it is.

Honestly Ice, I feel that if you buy a seat to any Bands show then the Band has to play for you. But how are they to gauge what will make EVERY single person in that audience Happy? Should they have a Questionare at the door?????

Bottom line, you buy a seat? Your a fan. No Matter how many times you've seen them. No Matter if your there for one show, or 50, no matter if you a casual fan, or a diehard. A FAN IS A FAN. IMO......

the dave matthews band plays what they want to play- most of their fans hate their "everyday" album and still they play songs from that album on a regular basis.
imho bands should play what they want to play- they're musicians and by making albums and concerts they should do nothing else but to offer that to the ppl with the motto "if you don't like what you see here- get the fuick out!"
a concert should be like "hey guys- we have 10 albums and alltogether 129 songs. tonight we're gonna play some songs of these albums plus there's this song from band ZCHZTCJH which we love to play. if you wanna have a good night dancing and having some beers and if you want to hear us playing the songs we recorded then come- if you come only to hear one song and then get pissed when it's not on the set list then stay where you are..."

Making a handful of true fans happy is much better than leaving the fans unhappy and pleasing the ones who have come to drink beer. And yes, a setlist wish on the net would be a good idea.

Wrong. Many seats are bought buy copanies for their guests, PR people, advertisers, sponsors, people bring theri freinds who donät like the band, many just come to check them out... There's a lot of people on a stadium, most of them aren't fans. If they were, bands would play more of the stuff the fans want to hear.

This is not a question of who's a fan and who's not, but a question of shoudl Bon Jovi play Bad Rx for the 100th millionth time at every concert or should they change the set list every once in a while.
