The only reason I can forgive Bon Jovi for this and I won't forgive them for the crap of the last 13 years is that they were very young when they wrote this. Being 23 and writing "Remember when we lost the keys and you lost more than that in my back seat" is more acceptable than a fella in his late 30s writing "Thank you for loving me, for being my eyes when I couldn't see, for parting my lips when I couldn't breathe" or "The sweat on this old collar, that's my phd."

Save the World, Thank You For Loving Me, You Had Me From Hello, All About Loving You, Complicated, Live Before You Die etc. are far more unforgivable for that reason.

But, taking each song in isolation and on it's own merits, you're 100% right.

What's wrong with that line?

Hardly. TYFLM is the kind of song an adult would relate to. Yes, there are cheesy lyrics, but it's one most adults can relate to when they stop to consider the love someone else has given them and want to express their gratitude. It's one Jon could have easily written for his wife.

Reading this thread made me want to listen to Slippery again, so thanks for that. The track is definitely dated and cheesey IMO, but I think thats OK and I still love it. Still love John Hughes movies too.

A couple of years ago I was looking to buy a house, and one of the places we looked at was a totally 80's house. Not just an 80's house either, but like an 80's dudes house. Wood paneling in the den, big screen projection TV and sterio system in the living room, in ground pool in the back yard; the best part was the bathroom which had a jacuzzi in the center and brown with black marble tiles all around. This was a house I could see a fur coat wearing Slye Stalone living in. The realtor told me the owner was a cop, I asked if his name was Axl Foley.

Anyway, I loved this ****ing house. I wanted to buy it. I wanted to buy this house AND buy a fur coat. (just kidding about the fur coat) My wife hated it of course, so we eventually ended up with a fully modern house. I didn't fight her on it or anything, I'm sure I would have grown tired of living in a time capsule. But man I loved the place. I wish I could have had just one soak in that jacuzzi with the Beverly Hills Cop theme song playing. Lol.

Can't agree BP. Adults might relate to the sentiment of the song but the lyrics are cliche ridden and cheesy enough that any lovesick teenager could write them.

As an adult, I can relate to Make a Memory, Whole Lot of Leaving, It's Hard Letting You Go, I'll Always Walk Beside You, most of Destination Anywhere for example. I cringe at Thank You For Loving Me.

It was Jon's attempt to chase another hit ala Always or Bed of Roses and flopped badly. And it flopped because it was just an empty, cliche ridden mess of a song.
