I agree with nearly all of that review. Especially this part:

Quote:
Listening to the new record, The Circle, you have the impression that nobody in the Jovi camp is really stretching themselves. No disrespect to those who dashed out to buy the new record on the day of release, and have already got tickets for the O2 Arena residency next year, but they’re rather too easily pleased. What this band needs is a right old kick up the arse, to reconnect with the hard rockers and make the album that I sense they wanna do – and I know a lot of the old brigade would love to hear again.
That's pretty much the point I made in my review. You just don't see a big performance from the band at any point during The Circle. There's just no passion or feeling any more and the band seem well within themselves. They do need a kick up the arse!

[QUOTE=JoviForever;958598]I think it should be a case of 'Classic Rock magazine should we care'?
That magazine has somehow survived by regurgitating old interviews for 10 years./QUOTE]

I agree with this statement and the fact it became a Led Zeppelin fanzine.

QUOTE]I also think it's strange that he says Jon has turned his back on the music press - I think it would be fair to say it's more like the other way round. This article and what will no doubt come tomorrow proves that./QUOTE]

Bon Jovi could release their "Dark Side of the Moon"(just an example) and it would get slagged off by the press .
While I dont agree with Sebs view of the album,at least he goes into detail of why he doesnt like it. You can guarantee that the main complaints of most press reviews are "cheesy ballads and chest thumping cliched anthems."

The thing that bugs me the most about the article is when it touches on how the band should go back to thier 'hard rock roots'. i ****ing hate it when people say that!

When were they ever a hard rock band??
They were/are a pop band.
The big hair and big guitars of the Slippery-era was more a sign of the times, not the band. The songs (im talking format/theme etc) haven't changed, the sound has just adapted.
Otherwise they'd be on the nostalgia trail like so many other 80's band (Def Leppard, Motley Crue etc etc). And that does not equal the chart succes that they have maintained over the last 20+ years.

Believe it or not, not everyone thinks everything they did with These Days is perfect. Granted, I'd take it any day over most of the post 2000 stuff, but personally, I think The Circle shits all over it.
The Circle is the best 00's album, but compared to These Days it pales into insignificance.

I grew up with it and Keep The Faith blaring out of my brothers CD players. I didn't know who the band were but the music stuck a chord inside me. If I was a kid growing up now and I heard the Circle it would just pass me by.

Here's part two of the debate. This is the 'AGAINST' article:

He had me until I read how Jon cutting his hair was deemed a point where the band "lost the plot." Idiot.

Just read it before you posted the link and its a pretty pointless argument against. All he does is slag off everything since New Jersey(including KTF and TD )and pick up on arguments that you could read anywhere on the net.
He hasnt even listened to The Circle and doesnt sound like he will either so a pretty biased against and ignorant view IMO.

That's the point, he doesn't need to listen to The Circle, because he doesn't care and gives his reasons why, and most reasons have been listed on here as well. Just because it's been posted before on the net doesn't make his reasons any less valid.

Salaam Aleikum,

Well I certainly disagree that Blaze of Glory (the album) was a "prize turkey". And how does cutting your hair affect your music making - especially in the context of Keep the Faith. There are certainly some turds on that album - but not the title track. These Days is dismissed as "horrid" with no reasons why.

It's not my idea of a music review but clearly the writer is a disenchanted ex-Bon Jovi fan who "doesn't care". Fair enough I suppose But I would rather have had a decent musical review of why I shouldn't care rather than a personal history grudge one.
