IF those are the words David used. Maybe the interviewer changed some things a little here and there. You can't be sure...

I think this "official member" stuff is coming from the press. I saw one in my news feed this morning that was from that idiot site that keeps posting that the next album will have Who Says with Keith Urban and all those Wish List songs from THIS site and it said Matt O'Ree is an "official member" now too.

The press does not understand what being an "official member" of Bon Jovi means in terms of what the fans understand it to mean. Let's just let them use THEIR terminology and we'll use OUR terminology and know the difference. It's nothing for anyone to get their panties in a bunch about.

Hmmm. I'm not sure this article is accurate at all.

1) I'm pretty sure David wouldn't say anything abotu Richie being on drugs considering the band has kept tight lipped on his departure until Richie spe about his reason for leaving. Being that he was exhausted and wanted to spend time with his daughter and make his own music.

2) I've not heard anything about Phil X becoming an official member. I doubt that Jon would make him an official member over Hugh. If Hugh became an official member AND Phil then that would probably be more believable.

3) Jon's loyalty to Alec and not officially replacing him. He's known Richie even longer, so by that reasoning it's unlikely.

4) Phil has stated he hasn't recorded with the band. John Shanks played all the guitar parts for Burning Bridges (and he's a good guitarist).

Jon's known Alec longer than Richie.

To be fair that was Alec leaving after 12 or whatever years of knowing him, this has 30+ years with Richie's role with Jon much much more important than Richie's. I agree if they're not going to "replace" Alec they are certainly not going to replace Richie, at least not this late in the game.

All I know is that Richie's absence still sucks ass. I still can't get over the fact the band is carrying on without him, wether it's his fault or Jon's. Some things aren't simply meant to go on under certain circumstances. And given the recent concert's setlists and Jon's vocal performance... I'd say it would have been a perfect time to call it quits. It would 'hurt' less than having Bon Jovi, the band, exist without Richie.

And yeah, Richie's right - It's like the Stones without Keef. Would you go see the Rolling Stones without their axeman ? I wouldn't.

It's sad but true, they're weighing out the amount of people who are just happy to see their favourite band versus the smaller crowd they're letting down by continuing. It's messed up but financially and ratio of people unhappy to happy it's not really a bad decision.
