OVERALL - With New Jersey, the band took what was great about Slippery, and added a much needed edge; while also expanding their repetoire and not being afraid to not stay completely within the confines of "glossy, anthemic, stadium pop metal / hard rock". Truly, it definitely deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as classic albums such as Pump, Appettite For Destruction, Hysteria and Doctor Feelgood as marking the apex of the genre. In my opinion, this is one of the greatest rock records of the 80s, if not of all time

10/10

Essential tracks: Lay Your Hands On Me, Born To Be My Baby, Blood On Blood, Wild Is The Wind, I'll Be There For You

Woah, that finished review reaches its 8th page of A4 on Microsoft Word in Times New Roman size 12, madness!

Anyways, just to round up the reviews so far, here is a quick recap of my own personal Best Of Bon Jovi from the 80s ....

Top 3 Albums:

1. New Jersey
2. Slippery When Wet
3. 7800 Fahrenheit (just about)

Top 20 songs (in only a very vague order ... which deteriorates a bit towards the bottom):

Wanted Dead Or Alive
Livin' On A Prayer
Blood On Blood
Born To Be My Baby
Lay Your Hands On Me
I'll Be There For You
Wild Is The Wind
Livin' In Sin
You Give Love A Bad Name
Homebound Train
Only Lonely
Let It Rock
I'd Die For You
Price Of Love
Runaway
Roulette
Shot Through The Heart
Hardest Part Is The Night
To The Fire
Love For Sale

Now to go listen to Blaze Of Glory!

Great review Walrus. It's nice to read them. I agree with you on New Jersey. I think it's one of the best "follow up the success" albums ever, and way better than Slippery When Wet.
Love For Sale: Only one thing to add, I don't find it very bluegrass...It's blues. Ok there's a short gap between blues and bluegrass, but still
Anyway, great review. Keep up the good 'n entertaining work!

Yah, I wasn't too sure myself on that one, I did go and look up bluegrass on Wikipedia though, and what it said sounded about right, so ....

This was beyond amazing. This review is so deep, so analyzed. What you came up with is truly incredible. You really know what your talking about and I understand so much more after this. I love New Jersey and now I finally truly understand it.

Amazing... amazing! Thank you!

Thank ye You're very welcome. I'm glad that people do get something out of this, seeing as I have such a blast writing them

I'm apprehensive as to whether I can do Blaze OF Glory justice, I took a proper listen last night and it just reinforced that it's very very different to albums I've written about so far ... well, I guess, I'll just have to try!

I'm not a fan of Blaze, so if your review makes me give it another shot, you've succeeded. Let's wait and see.

sww is better than new jersy IMO

apart from the big 3, let it rock is great, the two ballads are also great, and wild in the streets is among my all time fav song, not just BJ song, any song

so as far as comparison between SWW and NJ is concerned, SWW is better
