i don't agree. maybe bon jovi sound too 80s to some people but take a led zeppelin album for example. imo they will never sound outdated.
Listen to the album and it's production? It's not outdated??

Ryan

i didn't mean the production. productions are not "timeless" but songs are.
were you talking about the production in the first place?
No... I was using both instances. The songs themselves aren't timeless. No song is going to be "timeless". Why would anyone say they are "timeless". They are awesome no doubt about that but their albums aren't timeless.

Then you don't understand anything what the band is about. And the next quote proves it:

I think it sounds to forced, too "hair band" on New Jersey and yes it's not as powerful live but I think it sounds all the better for it.
They were a hair band! They created the genre! How can anything they do be _too_ "hair band"?

I've seen performances of Bad Medicine in the last few years that could stand up easily to performances I've seen in the '90's. Although I have seen one or two really tired, boring performance during the Bounce Tour.
How many performances have you actually _seen_, as in been there live? I've seen enough to say that Bad Rx has lost almost all of it's energy. In 1993 it was great, in 1995, it was good but after that it's been one of the most boring songs in the set. If I smoked, I'd sit down and have a smoke during it. And I'll Sleep When... and Captain Crash and... well, they just have way too much "air" in the set nowadays.

In regards to Bad Medicine again... I totally agree with you Ice... It's a terrible song live nowadays along with I'll Sleep When I'm Dead. Though I disagree with Captain Crash. I think it works well.

Fair enough if you dont like the song, its not for everyone, but if you are going to slag it off and quote lyrics then dont quote half a lyric. Its actually "I hear Disneyland might lose Mickey Mouse, in some giant hostile corporate shake up, (tell me its a nightmare, please wake me up)". To some people that might be a rather clever commentary on how devoid of sentiment that large corporations are ie that a huge corporation could take over Disneyland and remove something as integral to it as Mickey Mouse just because it might make financial sense. Its a clever lyric, as are most from SIIS.

As for NJ, its a great album. Yes it sounds dated but for what it is and for the time it was released its a good effort. Personally I'm not a huge fan of Homebound Train or 99 in The Shade but I can see why people like them. LYHOM, BM, BTBMB, BOB, and IBTFY(despite some awful lyrics) defined the album for me. As for Bad Medicine live, I agree 100% with Seb, its lost its power and is far too predictable, much like YGLABN.

I don't wish to get involved in the various slug fests that are going on, but I just wanna say I don't think any peice of music is timeless. I know that you guys mean that it sounds fresh and original every time you hear it, but music is always going to evolve, and there will always be new ways of making music. Take bands such as Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Def Leppard, etc for example. Back in the "Hair Metal" days it was a new take on rock music and therefore seemed cutting edge, but these days it's sound you'd largely regard with the 80s. It's a sound that has gone out of fashion, soon to be replaced by electronic sounds, synthesizers, etc which have brought around new genres such as Dance, Trance and Hip Hop.

What a great way to end an album. It's so unexpected after the hard rockers and powerful heart felt ballads of the album. I love the Harmonica and the fast fingerpicking acoustic riff. It's a good story too about his mum sending him a funny Valentine, and the lyrics sound great. [/b]
Say what? It's about his girlfriend/common-law spouse/wife. Not his mum. That's just disturbing.

specially when you take into consideration the lyric:
"it might not be legal, but it sure ain't a crime"

New Jersey is my favorite Jovi album. It may have more weaknesses than SWW(arguable) but it also features three of my all-time favorite Jovi songs(BTBMB, STYG, BOB) and a few others I like a lot(LIS, 99ITS, IBTFY). Blood on Blood is especially good, one of Jovi's best songs.

NJ is my favourite album, possibly of any band ever.

I cant understand how anyone could NOT love Homebound Train or 99. Richie is in unbelievable form in those songs, they are just pure rock fun and what BJ was all about. 99 is a classic "summer" rock song. Apart from DRy County it also contains possible Richie's best solo work in Hands and Train.

I agree about Bad Medicine though. I dont like the guitar effect used in ther verses on the album version. I think the "normal" guitar sound for it suits it much better.

Lay Your Hands On Me is the ultimate album / show opener. The video too showing Jon being propelled up from the stage just as the song kicks in proper gives me goosepimples. The only songs Im not too keen on are Living in Sin (I used to take it literally and thought it was about incest - Ive never been able to shake that image ) and Stick to Your Guns. I'll Be There For You is one of my favourite ballads, esp live the emotion it can generate is unbelievable. I've seen people (read: girls) crying during the woah woah woah stage at the end.

A far better album IMO then SWW which gets all the praise.
