I had no idea about this. What's the context of the quote?

The interview is called "What the blaze is going on?" And the part with Richie starts with Mick asking if everybody needs to get their solo albums out of their system first and saying that Jon and Richie were always the stars of the show. Jon goes on saying: "For the first two albums, he never wrote any singles. It was Dave Bryan and I who did it. Richie came in on the third album when he began to understand the way I like to write. It wasn't until the third album so it's not fair for everyone to pick up on him because it's...the press I mean, it's not fair." Then he goes on to say it's stereotypical to compare him and Richie to Jagger and Richards. It's an interesting piece.

mmm...sorry but I don't really see how Jon is jealous of Richie by simply stating facts here. If anything this is a back handed compliment to Richie as we all know it was Slippery that got the accelerated the band to success which Richie had a major part in. I see no jealousy from Jon here at all, because what is there to be jealous about....I don't get it

Serious? the only song co-written by David on the first album was Love Lives.

Bon Jovi - Bon Jovi (1984)

01. Runaway (Jon Bon Jovi, George Karak)
02. Roulette (Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora)
03. She Donīt Know Me (Marc Avsec)
04. Shot Through The Heart (Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora)
05. Love Lies (Jon Bon Jovi, David Rashbaum)
06. Breakout (Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora)
07. Burning For Love (Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora)
08. Come Back (Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora)
09. Get Ready (Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora)

Bon Jovi - 7800š Fahrenheit (1985)

01. In And Out Of Love (Jon Bon Jovi)
02. The Price Of Love (Jon Bon Jovi)
03. Only Lonely (Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan)
04. King Of The Mountain (Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora)
05. Silent Night (Jon Bon Jovi)
06. Tokyo Road (Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora)
07. The Hardest Part Is The Night (Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, Richie Sambora)
08. Always Run To You (Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora)
09. To The Fire (Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, Richie Sambora)
10. Secret Dreams (Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Tico Torres, Bill Grabowski)

Now pay attention to lyrics from Power Station period. Richie has a lot to do with the composition of Bon Jovi songs, IMO.
She Donīt Know Me and Silent Night was bad selection. Tokyo Road and Roulette would have been good singles at that time.

These two points completely contradict each other.

Regardless of the decline in the quality of the albums, for it to be only about the music it must include Richie.

Because he was credited doesn't mean he actually co-wrote. Adding a lick or your own solo gets you credit, so don't read so much into this. There was nothing in that 1990 interview that constituted any jealousy whatsoever.

Richie on the other hand was childish and bitter about Runaway.

Sure he does. He wants to buy an NFL team.

I'm not at all saying he cranks out albums and tours just to make the money to buy one, but he most certainly needs a lot of money in order to fulfill this goal of his. A lot more than he has.

So Jon going on and on about how it's not fair that Richie gets so much attention from the press isn't your idea of jealousy?
Neil Jeffries said it best: "If Jon was aware that he was coming over like a spoilt schoolboy, Jon wasn't about to bite his tongue. But pick that quote apart and it doesn't take a genius to see that, as Slippery When Wet was the third album, Richie was clearly instrumental in catapulting Bon Jovi to the position they now enjoyed." In his book titled Bon Jovi, pages 157-158.

Those are writing credits, not musical credits.

But I 100% agree about the Runaway comment. He may very we'll be sick if performing that song and in all honestly, I'm sick of hearing it too. But you don't publicly knock the song that started your band's career.
