At 7mins and 49 seconds in, Jon refers to the bridge of Lost Highway as their best bridge. Nowhere have I ever seen Jon refer to the song as their best.
No it's not just the bridge. He definitely said "Lost Highway is the best song Richie and I have ever written." I remember clearly because I read it a few times because I thought he was taking the piss.

Who cares it's still bullshit, they have several songs with a better bridge. It looks like Jon has forgotten all the great and special songs he wrote in the eighties and nineties.

In the video, Jon says, VERBATIM:
Quote:
There's lyrics in there, the best bridge I think we've ever written. 'Oh patron saint of lonley souls, tell this boy which way to go. Guide the car, you've got the keys, farwell to mediocrity' You know, I mean I just think that represents exactly what I'm feeling right now in my life, and uh, the lost highway is just where we're going.
I've read all the interviews/press I could on this album, and have not seen anywhere Jon refer to LH s the best song they've written. It's more than possible I could've missed it, and if so, I'd love if someone could provide it.

Or he's like any other writer who gets excited about something new he's written. Sometimes it takes time and reflection to have an accurate picture of what is good, better, and best. And, even then, it's still just one person's opinion vs. another's.

If you were to sit down with him and say something like:

"So do you like Hearts Beaking Even?" He'd probably reply with the same knowledge and passion that he does for something new.

It's just cos stuff that's not on the setlists, and not recent, is sidelined.

Perhaps some people are missing the point. We all take what we want from a song and interpret them how we wish. Jon on the other hand writes the song, and therefor is entitled to say which particular bridge/chorus etc is the best he has written. Just because the lyrics/ melody may not strike a chord with us, doesn't mean it's not special to him.

Give the guy a break. They're HIS songs. There's enough people wanting to take a pop at him without fans starting.

Hasn't Jon been saying that since 2000?
