I 100% agree with you there!

'These Days' is their best album by a mile.

He opened with that last time I saw the drills - I was the only one singing along because everyone else there was a Fretted Americana geek and seemed to just expect some sort of masterclass... they were suitably rocked. Mind numbingly so but still. Guthrie Govan was pulled up on stage too, that was kinda cool.

They really do Rock live! Their songs could have been really big in the late 90's, or at least featured on one of the American Pie soundtracks!

Nah...To die hards there's a big difference to the current stuff and the old stuff, but the average fan will consider it all the same. Bon Jovi will always be that hair band from the eighties with a few hits in the nineties, and they've done too little after New Jersey that's been relevant enough to get rid of that stigma.
See, I agree with you on this one. But I don't understand why and how. These Days was MASSIVE in Europe and Japan. In Japan I think it's the fastest selling album of all time, to this day. In Europe it went to Nr 1 in every damn country and stayed there for ages. The tour was huge. It was album of the year in most rock/metal magazines, it's in Classic Rock's best 100 album of the 90s, etc etc. It sold 12 million copies of which 7-8 were in Europe alone. That is huge by any means and probably bigger than Slippery or Jersey. Yet nobody remembers it. How is that possible??? I don't understand. I think it's the band's own fault, choosing to ignore it completely.... Even in Hugh's recent interview - he goes like 'an album that is often overlooked'. How can one of the biggest albums of 1995/1996 - certainly the biggest ROCK record in the UK other than What's the Story Morning Glory - be overlooked unless the band choses to overlook it?

The only explanation I have is the lack of a very strong single...

Of course, It's My Life was humongous and everyone remembers it - but does nothing other than re-inforce the shallow pop-rock image (before at least there was some 'metal' elements in people's memory).

Anyhow...just rambling now but you get the point...

This Ain't A Love song did pretty well as a single in the UK, but then the album was released straight after so Something For The Pain did okay but not great and Hey God as a single was barely even registered, probably because everyone had bought the record by that point.

But you're right These Days was massive as far as albums go, but doesn't retain the same simplicity as the anthems from Keep The Faith or Slippery, or Always which everyone remembers. So it's possibly because it lacked that simple Bon Jovi tune like Bad Medicine, or Sleep When I'm Dead or It's My Life (the sort of songs we're bored of on here!) that no-one remembers it.
