Default No Bounce & Why Jon Hates Greatest Hist

I mentioned in another thread the reason why I think no Bounce songs were included on the Greatest Hits.

I gave it it's own tread to get additional opinions and thoughts.

All About Lovin' You - Bon Jovi, Sambora, Carlsson, Child

In Addition: I'd like to add my opinion as to why I feel Jon hates Greatest Hits.

I do believe the who nostalgic thing but I also feel that there are a lot of people making money off those past hits. I'm sure there is less financial gain from the old hits due to start-up record contracts. We all know how bitter Jon is when it comes to people making money off his stuff. That is probably the main reason why he hates them and another reason why TLFR was done as opposed to a real Greatest Hits. If he re-records his old music, there is less he needs to give back to the people he most likely can't stand (And I'll include Alex in that category as well).

My head was spinning as to why no Bounce songs were included. It made absolutely no sense to me. Everyday was a Grammy Nominated Song, Hit #1 on VH1, was a big outside the US, and you'd think they'd want to represent each album. Especially with all the time remaining on disk 2. Then it hit me, I remembered that they brought in outside song writers for Bounce. I looked it up on Wikipedia and sure enough, there was that guy who I never heard of all over the songs.

We all know how Jon is with $. And I believe that is the answer.

Desmond & Billy are long time friends at this point and wouldn't rape Jon out of money regardless of whatever contract they originally had. I think Desmond is one of Jon's kids Godfather. Desmond is like the 5th member of the band. Billy same thing.

As far as Max, you can't have a Greatest Hits w/out IML.

Plus I don't think Jon minds paying them for well deserved hits. They made his career a success.

Adding those minor Bounce hits to the CD does nothing to the album as far as sales so why pay this guy a %

But even with all that said, this still supports my overall theory as to why Jon Hates Greatest Hits.

Why would they want to pay to all the other sognwriters and not Carlsson?

It makes no sense.

Jon had total control of the GH tracklist, I'm pretty sure he doesn't like Bounce. Plus it wasn't received as good as he wanted back then.

Best regards,
the Sexx

Everyday is okay but to me it's IML revisited. So if you have IML no sence having Everyday. The other 2 aren't my cup of tea. So maybe Jon thought there were better songs to be included in the GH apart from those. I know I wouldn't have picked any of those either. That said, I reckon at least one Bounce track should've been included.

I don't think it was a matter of Jon not liking Bounce. Everyday sounded way less like It's My Life than Hand. Theme wise, yah. Chord wise, not at all.

Aloha !

It's a bullshit argument anyway. If you re-record your greatest hits the songwriting credits stay the same, so they'd still have to pay the same people the same amount of royalties. And Alec was on One Wild Night anyway, he played bass on the recordings of Runaway and In & Out Of Love.

Jon hates the idea of a Greatest Hits because he knows that it makes people want stuff he has already done instead of people wanting him to release his new records.

End of argument.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Sebastiaan, if you actually took the time to read what I wrote, instead of being overly excited to argue & act like you know it all, you'd realize that there are three different scenarios going on here…..

1- Re-recording the Greatest Hits as in TLFR avoids paying all the original individual produces and original musicians AKA Alex. Probably why Jon opt to go in that direction vrs a Greatest Hits back then.

2- Yes, Alex was on OWN but in only two songs. He'll earn a lot less than playing on the entire album. Probably why the rest of the songs were from Hugh's day. Same with the Special Edition

3- As far as the Greatest Hits. There are 6 song writers. Jon, Richie, Dave, Desmond, Billy F, & Max (I'm not including the Runaway guy). These are the people who deserve royalties. Not some smuck who helped co-write two mediocre songs.

I think it’s less about more money in Jon's pocket, and more about Jon putting money in someone elses who he feels doesn't deserve it.

I'm 99.9% sure this is the reasoning. I could see Bruce taking the "makes people want stuff he has already done instead of people wanting him to release his new records" approach. But Jon is the biggest sellout and loves big numbers and albums.

Also, say what you want about Everyday sounding too much like this and that. And Jon doesn't like Bounce. Etc. Now that’s BS and I'm not buying it.

Exactly Right! Also, with the 3 of them (IML, HAND & Everyday) sold together along with the new songs' and their lyrics, jon probably knew people would realize how much they are all the same.

Wait, why is the guy any less deserving of royalties because you don't like the songs? He did his job just the same Max Martin did, hell just the same Billy Falcon does.
