I LOVE the Destination Anywhere album. I like that most of the songs (probably with the exception of Naked) are about something and have a purpose. These songs were certainly not written in a half hour like Jon like to claim many songs are today and it shows in the depth of the songwriting.
I feel as though this album, along with These Days and Keep The Faith, showed that Jon and the band are real artists and not just guys who write fluff like Bad Name and Raise Your Hands for example.I remember thinking that Janie would be a huge hit here in the US when it was released. Sadly, the album didn't do well and we've been cursed with such lyrical masterpieces as We Got It Goin On and This Is Our House since.
The Circle was the first release since Destination Anywhere, with the exception of a few songs here and there, that I felt really brought the songwriting to the forefront again. I really hope Jon does another solo record and it follows that model. Forget writing songs to have a hit, write from your heart and the true fans will follow.

"Each song played was just another example of how ingenious these guys are at writing choruses that make you feel like there’s a big game tomorrow, that you’re the underdog, and that you’re going to win."
