Different Lady and Don't Leave Me Tonight should have made the first album.

Edge Of A Broken Heart would have been a massive hit, but not necessarily because of the song's strengths, just because it was the right time, right band, right place. I don't think it mattered what Bon Jovi released in that period, it was simply their time to make it big. I don't think it's quite good enough to hold up as a song on Slippery.

They've so many b-sides that are as good, if not better, than many of their album tracks. Postcards has a really cool vibe though that would stand out in amongst their other catalogue of songs though I don't think that would have been a hit song.

I think of all of them, Dirty Little Secret should have been on the HAND album properly, should have been a single, and would have sold an awful lot of copies. It would have worked on radio, wasn't as formulaic as Have A Nice Day and has a grittier feel.

Good thread. Just thinking about this the other day. Of the unreleased songs, I think some of the ballads are the strongest. Miss Fourth Of July and Every Beat Of My Heart are album-worthy. I like Maybe Someday too, although quite of bit more mellow.

Maybe Someday was one that came to mind for me too. Melodically and lyrically it is a strong song. But the instrumentation and arrangement make is sound a little sappier (OR Richard Marx-ier)than it needs to be. If it had more of a MAM type of production, I think it would be incredible.

MFOJ is over-rated in my book. I'm glad I have it as a b-side, but there isn't a song off KFT or TD that I'd remove for it (can't remember the exact time period it was written).

Off the box set, I would have rather had I Just Want To Be Your Man instead of Diamond Ring... i think it fits perfectly in its place. I think Why Aren't you Dead should have made an album (it possibly could have been a single), but I don't know what I'd remove to make it happen. I think Crazy Love could easily replace I Got the Girl... and it would fit nicely and it is a stronger song IMO.

I just think Miss Fourth Of July and Every Beat Of My Heart both feature the type of Jon/Richie harmonies that are one of the hallmarks of their great ballads.

Edge Of A Broken Heart would have been a huge hit IMO. Not only was it "right place, right time" for Bon Jovi, but Edge is a tremendous song. It boggles my mind that Social Disease and Without Love made Slippery over it.
As far as Miss Fourth of July, I don't know if t would have been successful as a single, but I think it's better than several of the songs on KTF. Replace I Want You and Fear with MFOJ and The Radio Saved My Life Tonight and Faith becomes their best album IMO.

No, absolutely. You are right about that. The harmonies are fantastic... Especially in MFOJ. It is a good model of what makes their talent together special... Just unless they were to have put out another album in the mid 90s, I can understand why its a bside

I gotta disagree there. The only songs on Keep The Faith I'd rank higher are KTF, I Believe, Dry County, and Bed Of Roses. On These Days I'd only put TD, Hey God, This Ain't A Love Song, and Something to Believe In over it.

I know... And I'm sure I am a minority around here when it comes to MFOJ. But as strong as some of its key elements are, I think it's overrated. Same with Garageland.

But also, there is very little from KTF or TD I'd change, as great as some of it's b-sides are. I love the albums' flow and if I were to replace a song it'd need not only be a better song, but also need to serve the same purpose as the song it'd be replacing. Again, like Diamond Ring for I Just Want to Be Your Man or possibly Bitter Wine. I would not trade Woman In Love for Save a Prayer (a better song) because it just wouldn't fit in my eyes.
