a painkiller can not possibly feel pain - ever. If you want to become something that feels no pain, become numb or a rock or whatever. It makes absolutley no sense

If he is hurting so much wouldn't he want some novocaine instead of becoming a chemical substance? lol.

the lyric says; when you're the needle running through my veins, i've changed my name to novocaine.

and it's a metaphor, an allegory. i don't find any reason why you should try to explain it literally.

By the way, its a bunch of mother****ers here that critizise everything...

What do people want BJ to write about? If you dont like what their writing about , write a song youself and let us read the lyrics....dont mean everyone here, but some of you.

Checked out the musicians forum? Plenty of lyrics on there. I seem to have lost my status as a member of it ever since the changeover to the new board, and now I need to wait for somebody to let me back in. Which is annoying, cos I have two new songs to post

oh and btw, I didn't realize it was a metaphor - I thought Jon was legally changing his name to Novocaine - was about to put a petition together for him not to do so....

the emphasis was on you trying to explain a metaphor literally and not on that lyric being a metaphor.

and i don't take bon jovi lyrics seriously i wasn't the one who tried to explain anything - i take them as they are. you asked what it means and i said that you can't always explain a metaphor.

I'm new here...I gotta question about this song...I've seen mention of it being about "the divorce" and I'm just wondering what that means...what divorce? Maybe it's not my business but I'm asking anyways.
