I remember being at the show and being amazed, I was expecting quite a short one given Jon recently busted his knee and the Manchester show before was fairly short and this was a festival.

Couldn't have been more wrong, a great show and performance and set, every time I thought they'd finish, they pulled another one out, until ILTT but by then they had pretty much played every other close anyway. It's a great show I listen to now still as the default live track for most of the setlist and a great flow from start to finish - only sticking Runaway in would have been perfect.

Yep, Playback, I think they mimed through HAND for that Swarvoski show as well. Got some criticism from Sharon Osbourne for the song being a mess too. She must have not heard the crap her daughter put out and called music.

Since the Tokyo show from the Bounce tour was brought up here yesterday, I thought I'd add the soundcheck to it. Recorded from Jon's mic:

01. Richie's Blues (incl. Living In Sin solo) [0:00]
02. Blaze of Glory take 1 [1:45]
03. Blaze Of Glory take 2 [8:47]
04. Wild Is The Wind take 1 [14:46]
05. Wild Is The Wind take 2 [21:37]
06. I Believe [29:32]
07. Born To Be My Baby take 1 [35:05]
08. Born To Be My Baby take 2 [35:37]
09: Born To Be My Baby take 3 [37:16]

Wow, seems like Jon's voice was shot even there... but still SO much better than it is today.

Both Jon and Richie had really caught the flu somewhere around that Japanese leg, hence Jon's vocals being more rough and the Yokohama acoustic concert being scrapped after he couldn't maintain a satisfying voice.
But I agree that you can already hear a decline, especially since the emphasis is so much on his vocals in this recording. If you strip the vocal channel from the Crush tour DVD you can clearly hear where he had to strain his voice back in 2000 already.

As loved as that era is around here, his voice STARTED to decline around the These Days era.

Jon's voice had thinned out quite a bit already between the early winter (November/December) of '95 and May/June '96, but his range was still intact and technically he was singing better than ever before (and probably after as well). However, the deterioration was very mild and I, for example, wouldn't be able to tell in general if a live performance was recorded in '95 or '96, unless I really concentrated on the smallest details.

Are we really romanticizing the past to the point that 2013 is considered "the good old days"? The band was getting slammed pretty hard that tour. The setlists had a mini set of songs no one had heard at that point and rare songs were pretty in frequent. I'm not saying those days weren't better than now, but the Because We Can Tour got a loooooot of flack on this board.

I totally agree... I'm getting a kick out of reading about how great the times everyone bashed when they where going on... The same will happen with this tour too... It's easy to put together a greatest hits montage and reflect on it like that was everything... it's also easy to go in the opposite direction and do the same...

During the next tour we'll see posts about BOR Chilli and Bad Medicine Philly like they were the greatest times...
