My guess is..... he is or has used a coach recently but what type of coach is he using is the real question???

First, is he/she showing Jon just different techniques, is he/she prepping Jon throughout entire songs, entire tours, or all the above?

Second, how often does he see his coach? Is it daily, only during studio takes, only during touring times, etc?

I think in order for Jon to do it right, he needs to work with someone who not only truly understands his vocal state but to teach him how to sing every song that he plans to play live... Basically, Jon needs to relearn his entire catalog...

Now the other big stipulation is being able to maximize without causing anymore damage.

I don't think the goal is for Jon to win the XFactor... The goal is to make Jon not sound awful. For him to make it through a show without damage and to keep people satisfied...

Exactly this. People need to be realistic about what Jon is trying to achieve here, and what RD is saying I believe is close to the truth

I'm pretty sure that, as of 2014 or 2015 (probably the latter), it was mentioned that he was back to working with Katie Agresta.

This is what I don't understand at all...

If he is working with somebody on his voice, then why does he sound so bad overall? It's not just his vocal tone that's awful (thin, nasal, weak, etc) but his singing technique is just non-existent. I'm not expecting him to get back to his prime level over 20 years ago (which is completely unrealistic and the damage has been done to prevent that) but at the very least get to a level where he actually sounds like a professional singer again.

On all these videos and audio sources from 2015-onwards, it's been nothing but bad singing overall. Yes - there are performances that are a bit better than others, but he sounds as if he doesn't know how to sing anymore. He's constantly missing notes left and right and is extremely pitchy around his passaggio points. It doesn't sound like he's been working with anybody at all (although it's been said he has).

Walleris has made posts that I pretty much agree with. Rdkopper made some great points earlier about Jon. How is Jon dealing with his vocal state? Is he practicing? etc. If Jon wants to make serious progress on getting himself back up to a professional level - it'll take serious work and dedication. Absolutely no shortcuts.

Thinny: I'm not going to put a year on what Jon should sound like. A big fantasy of mine is to have his prime voice back - but it won't happen. All I want is for Jon to sound like a professional singer again at this point. I don't expect a big miracle or anything. As long as Jon can get his pitch better, use proper breathing (which will improve his tone), and work extremely hard with extreme dedication, I think he'll honestly move in the right direction.

Somebody on an earlier post/thread (Rdkopper I think) said something about Jon completely reinventing himself as a singer. If Jon did a solo album in the vein of Destination Anywhere or even just an acoustic-style solo album (original material) maybe Jon can shine on that sort of material. If Jon can re-train himself and get some good tone back in his lower-to-mid range, I think he can pull it off. I just can't see him doing justice to the Bon Jovi songs anymore - even if he does improve.

I'm sorry. I wasn't sure about whether Jon's using a vocal coach or not. Now that my comment has gotten so many replies about him likely using one, I believe so by myself as well. I'm sure that many of you are a lot deeper aware about his current vocal situation than I am.

Sorry, I didn't mean to single you out. It's quite a few people who think that Jon doesn't care and he's not aware of how he sounds. Of course he is. Of course he's doing whatever he can. Should he be out on the road with his voice in this condition? That depends on each fan I guess but he knows.

There are several topics about his voice already. Why hijack every topic to discuss his voice?

No problem. And I think he should, especially now that he's finally regained (or at least regaining) his confidence as a performer.

At the moment, he's not a very good SINGER in general, but if he moves around on stage and otherwise puts his all into his performances, I'm all for him continuing for at least five more years to follow.

Because I think it's an issue worth discussing. After all, this is a YouTube thread, where we can discuss the videos that are posted. On most of the clips we can hear Jon sing, and if it doesn't sound good, it's not unnecessary to mention - not for me at least -, as I think we all agree with the basics about his current vocals.

I had always thought that after breaking his shoulder (which was right before the Japanese leg on the HAND tour), Richie had never gone back to playing the In These Arms solo. But he still played it here:

Might've been pretty much the last time though.
