There are 2 Bon Jovi's... '83 - '96 and '00 - '18 ('97 DA is the transition)
For me, there are 3 Bon Jovi's:

1. '83-'96
2. '00-'13
3. '13-

I have a few sub categories myself.. You could break it down by The Shanks Era, Vocals, Alec, Richie, hair, etc...

Mine is not so much split by vocal eras but performance... As great as some performances were in '00, I felt shows were less natural and more rehearsed... This is where I started noticing changes with songs like Bad Name, Etc... That's why I have a simple 2 Jovi category...

For me one of the bright spots on the infamous 2007 VH1 unplugged show. Why am I posting this now? Two things:

1) 10 years ago I didn't think much of this performance when I first saw it. I thought the song really suffered from being dropped half a step. But I wasn't such a harmony geek like I am now. LeAnn's harmonies are great (Richie pre-2005 level great) and they're much more audible here than the studio version, even if it's in a lower key.

2) They could still play it! In this key the song can be sang by any average baritone (which is who Jon is now) and there are 0 really high notes. Some of the stuff he hit on the last tour (e.g. "lay my hands on YOUUU", "hey man I'M ALIVE") is much higher than any note in this song. If he can't do the classic ballads on regular basis, I wish he tried to make up for it by doing the easier ballads, e.g. Strangers, TYFLM, Memory, Diamond Ring, etc. But for most of the shows they did pretty much nothing, even Scars disappeared from the set.

I agree. Also, I'd be very happy if they played Seat Next To You again, and I didn't really like it until last year.

EDIT: However, I think Strangers would lose a lot of its magic without a female singer doing it as a duet with Jon. Lorenza isn't there anymore, and LeAnn won't be able to attend multiple shows (maybe MSG with a lot of luck, unless she had her own gigs reserved for those days). Would it really sound as good as it did back in the day with just JBJ singing?

EDIT 2: Btw, Walleris; do you think Jon would still be able to sing Open All Night (the Bounce track) nowadays? There's one high-ish note near the end of the song (the last "I don't want to MAKE the same mistakes..."), and as it's the only somewhat demanding note on the song, I think Jon could still hit it - at least sometimes. Whenever he thought his voice wouldn't handle it, he could dodge it by singing it the same way as it's sung on the first two choruses.

Good times:

https://youtu.be/R4zlgAyGOoc (OAN/live at Mohegan Sun - holy shit, in just a little while it's been ten years already since this performance! Yeah, I do miss those times...)

It is such a relief seeing Lost Highway taken at such high regards. The production and mix is so great, so refreshing and way different than the albums before and after it. It is also easily my favorite post 2000 album and I think is number 3 after these days and keep the faith.

That said, I've seen til we ain't strangers anymore live, and I remember it being a highlight of the whole show- and that same show had stranger in this town, mystery train and never say goodbye.

LH is a great album! It has the most diverse songwriting of any post 2000, hell maybe even any BJ album (except for TD maybe). Take Strangers for example: it's verse 1, verse 2, chorus 1, solo, chorus 2, outro (IIRC). I still remember to this day how baffled I was when they hit into chorus 2 after the solo. Great song!

I agree! LH is my favorite post-2000 Jovi album nowadays as well. It used to be HAND, but then I listened to Wildflower again and reconsidered things...

PS. ILTT is still a crap song for me.

No, Wildflower is crap. I actually play ILTT everytime I drive into town in my car. My family even requests it

Talking about family: my youngest loves her BJ tunes in the morning and shakes her whole body in hear children's chair. She loves THINFS for example, RC, HAND, TWWTM, and so on, but WWWU? Not so much. Telling? I don't know

So now Lost Highway is the best album since These Days... We should go back to 2007 to read how well everyone loved it back then...

I guess that means in 2027, THINFS will finally get some love... Can't wait because I actually enjoy this one...

I've never heard people bash the Lost Highway album. I have always viewed it as quite favorable among fans. The only complaint has been that too many and always the same LH songs has been in the set list for to long now. Lost Highway, WLOL and WGIGO seriously needs a rest (even though I get why WGIGO is there).
