Just the passion, delivery, emotion etc that is put into this performance. I love that show as a whole.

That's a very interesting way of describing it. I'm really fascinating about his vocal improvement in 2008, because he never 'recovered' his voice, he just learned a new way to sing and thus expanded his range to 2000-2001 levels.

When I first saw the 2008 performances of Blood Money, the way Jon sang the high notes ("This ain't about me"), I also thought that his is how tenors sing in musicals in operas.

He probably was tought to sing this way to be more sustainable, but we all know how that went.

Jon just tours now to keep the $ coming in for the football team. He still wants to buy one.
Thats why WAN was put out and toured so quick after The Circle.

That Frankfurt show was such a strange experience. After Munich (where his voice had gone shit before they were halfway into the show) my PC had broken down and I went to Frankfurt without knowing how crazy the setlists had developped and how his voice had improved.
The show started so damn poor with the sound being everywhere (no one knows why the roof got closed since it was a great sunny day) and us hearing it three times for the price of one. Jon was so moody throughout the first few songs and I thought "this will be over rather fast tonight".
Then something happened to him and it felt like he was determined to overcome all the technical difficulties and show everyone how it's done. It was the first (only?) time that they did a reprise of Mercy and the end of Sleep and from then on the tides turned. I couldn't believe where his voice came from, but it wasn't even at its peak during Bed of Roses (though I think he has never done the rasp on "I got nothin' to prove..." in almost 2 decades). When they entered KTF I thought that was trying to literally sing the roof off the arena and Richie tore the solo to pieces!
The coolest thing was Jon sayin' "and this building sounds like shit! I hope it sounds better down there than in our monitors".
And, as Seb rightly pointed out a few pages earlier in this thread, the encores had pretty much the best Damned and These Days performances in a long time with no moody vocals anywhere but him going for everything.

Should I stop supporting Liverpool because we lost to Swansea & West Brom? Arguably the two worst teams in the premier league currently. Of course not! Why? Because the week before, we smashed the champions and the best team in the league.

Should I stop supporting the band because Jon sounds like ass on songs live? No. Why? Because 'This House Is Not For Sale' is, in my opinion, a solid album. I also still watch Rock In Rio show from the other month. Was it perfect? No. But it's still shown me glimpses of the band/Jon gaining confidence and sounding better than he did on previous shows. 'Lay Your Hands On Me' and 'Keep The Faith' with the walk down the middle with Phil X and then Shanks are small mini moments that make me smile. Sounds ridiculous but I watch stuff like that and love it.

I get that people go off things. I'm probably not as big a fan as I used to be, in terms of excitement for shows etc.. but they're still my band.

You, Jeeper, know more than most how critical I can be of the band - I'll always support them, though. Just like I'd still support Liverpool if they got relegated.

I'm really confused about how Jon was even able to lose his capability of using that technique, as it obviously was intended (and therefor probably thought as well) to be sustainable.

Was it so taxing that his cords simply gave out?

Did he forget how to use it?

Did he try to create a new technique to replace it by himself (without the help of a vocal coach), but didn't succeed and therefor contributed to some kind of additional vocal damage that has affected his post-'11 performances?

Did the '13 stress somehow make him permanently incapable of using it?

I won't pretend that I'm a huge fan of the current lineup or that Jon's voice is all that I miss. Not by a long shot. But even with the changes, Jon's vocal struggles, and the MIA guitarist, Bon Jovi is still my band and I still look for the best from them; just like I still look for the best every time I hear something new from Richie and RSO.

I guess maybe I really am an eternal optimist.

The “my band” comment sums it up perfectly. When I was growing up I honestly believed NOBODY loved them more than me. Now, I realise most of us on this board probably felt that way at one point or another.

Yep, Frankfurt was an amazing show. Btw, Jon also did the raspy part on BOR at least in Montreal...

Here's the These Days rendition (for about the tenth time on this thread):

https://youtu.be/bdDEHZeQdD0

Jon completely f***s up the "Ain't nobody left but us..." part, but the energy and passion he puts into the performance as a whole is stunning. However, in terms of his vocals, there are many better ones from 2010-11 - with the best example (at least for me) being this:

https://youtu.be/gooaY45jvcM

He really hits EVERY SINGLE NOTE - including ALL the "Oh no no's" on ALL the choruses - and even goes for an extra "Ain't nobody left but us..." at the end of the song, which is something I don't remember him having done anywhere else but in Vancouver 2011 in addition to the version above:

https://youtu.be/2zbrHMnd9m8

EDIT: The guys also delivered an amazing rendition of STBI in Vancouver. Even though it wasn't quite as epic as the Sydney one, the last long note was incredible, and Jon turning around to cough afterwards was a priceless moment!

The band performed Bad Name and IML too but I'm too tired to post them here now. What is nice about this performance is that Dave's and Richie's mics are too high and they can be heard loud and clear. On the " Hold on to what we've got" part they sings like they're just one person because of how loud their mics are. You can hear David clearly hitting the notes on the choruses. I wonder if there is a full version of this...
