Interesting. I know people give JBJ shit for the whole "elder statesman with interests other than rockin' out" schtick, but by God, the phase when he was no longer young and playful but also not in this era yet had some grade A asshole-ish arrogance on display. As seen by all the Crush era interviews. Selling sappy love ballads to the housewives while also trying to hit on every girl moderator, it seems like a sleazy cross between Tommy Lee and Bill Clinton.

This phase may have peaked with the "I'm the CEO!" BS during the The Circle era, and who knows, maybe Richie / his best worker bailing knocked some overdue humbleness into his entrepreneurial skull.

The 2000's were probably his midlife crises
But yeah, he went from being a fun and mostly humble person in interviews in the 90's through the pseudo-serious phase of being an actor with a rock band to being an arrogant SOB for most of 2000-2006 and then transformed to being the CEO / elder statesmen person.

I'd call it "The Stink-Eye era" Jon.

I think the humbleness was knocked into by his own diminishing ability as a singer, which as a result made him stop treating his bandmates like crap when they make a mistake.

Eh, his vocals were in a pretty rough condition as early as the Bounce tour. But yeah, after The Circle, the current hits dried out. Maybe that did the trick?

Having a tidy up and come across some of my old Bon Jovi DVDs with stuff I recorded off the telly. Here's a random interview from 2000 from the release of TYFLM. Nothing particularily interesting, its from the same junket as this Bon Jovi - Interview Celebrity ITV 2000 - YouTube which is also my recording thanks to the wonders of DVD trading. At least in this one, both Jon & Richie are interviewed.
Weird makeup.

When me and the wife got together in 2005 a few months after we moved in there was a promo programme on TV with Fearne Cotton regarding the HAND album (Mustve been as it was 2005)

JBJ clearly didnt want to be there. Dont get me wrong the questions from Cotton weren't the best (usual hair etc shite) but my wife said to me "JBJs an arrogant bloke isnt he? Comes across as a bit of an arsehole"

On the evidence i had in front of me it was hard to argue. He did come across a bit of a twat that night.

Unforgettable (although probably not the interview you were talking about)

Agreed, I found it very enjoyable. The questions were logical and not cliche, and Jon was a person in responding, rather than a rockstar drinking his own kool aid. It felt like he was shooting the shit, rather than selling us (the viewers) on the facade.

The more interviews like this we get, the better.
