I think that rather than trying to be Nirvana, Bon Jovi adopted a formula to reinvent itself to the new times as U2 did with Actung Baby: Makeover, haircut, diferent musicality and lyrics. Keep The Faith is not a grunge attempt, it more was the awakening of social consciousness. Nirvana played an important role in this but ...KTF was the result of an explosion of sounds coming from U2's Actung Baby, passing through Metallica's Black Album and some epic songs from the Use For Illusions of Guns N Roses ... and a pinch of Bryan Adams Waking Up The Neighbors. But I guess Bon Jovi was the easy target to get hit.

Ironically, These Days is an album influenced by the grunge and rock n roll of the 70s.

This is 1983-10-01 Passaic, NJ at the Capitol Theater. There would have been a few more songs played but only these 3 were broadcast. The previous week they opened for ZZ Top at Madison Square Garden, NYC.

Everything about this is sad. I am not aware of any BJ shots where they're wearing flannel, but keep in mind, YOU shared the story how JBJ came into the studio with a copy of Runaway Train and requested its guitar sound.

When I hear a Bon Jovi song my instant reaction is to cringe and turn it. That goes with all hair-metal. Hair-metal lacks depth or any kind of real artistic expression. Hair bands were fake and the songs were crafted to simply sell records to the masses of people that don't care if a song says something or has meaning. Nirvana came along and killed hair-metal because Nirvana was real and didn't wear hairspray, makeup and spandex.
