Looks like the band is "performing" in front of a green screen. Very weird.
Hmm I didn't get that impression at all.

I've looked at it a few times now and it is 100% green-screened. It makes sense, I suppose. It would have been a massive undertaking to film that video on location and it can be done well, cheaply, and safely in a studio so why not.

It just took me by surprise when I watched it initially based on what I had read. I saw an article on billboard and hadn't read these threads so I was expecting a live video performed on a harbour, and I saw a mimed performance in front of a green screen.

The band/Jon deliver so many letdowns nowadays.

I see what you're saying. There's a few shots here and there that are questionable. But it also fights like a logistics, lighting nightmare to get the light from the sun right with the band footage.

To me it feels like they had a pre-recorded track they mimed to a bunch of times as the sun rose and edited it together but I'd love to know for sure.

It's Jon as a solo act here I guess, so decided to peek.
1) Not sure if it is a green screen keying job (let's say I'm 80% sure it isn't)
2) The opening lines are jarring, and the rest is excruciatingly painful to listen to as well (couldn't finish it). The "stroke speech" has gotten beyond comical, but I guess it's fitting when the song's being arranged for someone with cognitive impairment.
3) Loads of autotune but that's nothing new.

In this publication the Director of the video says: shot all real. Just had to wake up early.

Fair enough. I stand corrected.

There are a few shots where Jon's silhouette looks superimposed but obviously not.

I know these comparisons are frowned upon here and I'm not a Springsteen diehard fan, but his bare rendition of "Land of Hope and Dreams" just trashed that JBJ video left, right and center...once again

Well I am a Springsteen diehard fan and what I liked about his version of LOHAD is that it was real and sincere. I have heard him sing that better dozens of times, but it was freezing outside and his voice was not at it's finest. And despite that I think it was a stellar effort.

The only other performance that I loved was Dave Grohl.

I really enjoyed it. Jon still got a few 'overacting' stadium moves . But I thought the performance and the message was well done.
