Listening now and it really confirms what I was saying. When the emotion and intensity is there the ho-hum post 2000 lyrics really shine when performed right. This is killer.

That chorus opening kinda screams "a yelping and husky 1988 JBJ interpretation would do wonders here". Like, go higher, but slide down on the word "burn". Hell, even the YEAHs from that QVC (?) performance of Undivided have the quality that would make that line come ALIVE. As it is, it's decent, but never takes off 100%.

Last night I found a band called The Lovesick, which consists of the members of Slippery When Wet - the tribute band that performed on the 2 Runaway to Paradise cruises in 2019 - doing their own music. While me talking about this band could easily seem off-topic, I think this song (and especially the video) plain and simply screams Roller Coaster:

To be fair, it truly is extremely generic post-2k pop rock. As a whole, their songs basically sound like recent Eurovision anthems with a maybe bit more organic sound, and the singer flashing his Jon-like smile and still doing his JBJ maneuvers even on his own songs makes the videos slightly uncomfortable to watch in a way. Kind of an interesting curiosity, but hardly one to remember.

The production of the guitars and the vocals stands out as VERY amateurish. I wonder why they would spend cash on videos if they don't record properly, but then again, the videos look like they were done on a budget, too.

The reason it all looks and sounds so cheap is probably because it doesn't get inventive with the limitations and instead as you aid apes a very much preset stereotype, so it only winds up being a weaker version of s sth else instead of its own thing.
