Oh my God!!! It's just the reason why I fell in love with this band in the first place. It hurts listening to him singing those high notes. Amazing!
Thanks for that!

You all do realize Jon could only pull that off once in the studio, right?

Not true, there's bootlegs of the first leg of the Slippery Tour and he pulled it off with ease back then.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Fair enough, I forgot about these. Doesn't exactly sound as good as the album cut, but it's definitely him hitting them. Not for long though:

My real point was, lazy singer Jon is nowadays, there's no way in hell he'd come close to this anymore.

well one point is the state of his voice. on the other hand he doesn't have the attitude anymore. especially since the business is above the music

That's good and true and all, and there's no denying his passion for music is enormously overshadowed by his passion for business. But that's totally irrelevant to his ability to sing Prayer. He stopped singing it by NJ Tour, and during the early 90s, which I think many would claim were his best years vocally anyways, he didn't sing it then either.

Now I'm not saying he's singing as well as he could these days (though this idea his voice is "shot" is kind of odd. Did you miss the LH Tour?), and yeah, the man's heart isn't in music as much as it was, and though I'm pretty high on the Circle for what it is, there's no doubt their best days recording-wise are long behind them. None of that has to do with Livin' on a prayer live though.

well ok, lets say it isn't as powerful as it used to be. some singer has luck, the other hasn't... that's life
if it was ALL about the music, I guess the output we're getting wouldn't lack in quality as it does here and there. there is the band but in this group it rises or falls with JBJ. the boss is the navigator of the ship

Have you ever heard him speaking openly at length about his vocal problems. I have only seen that 1 mention on ''behind the music' about not being able to sing LOAP high notes. But I think most of us are ok with that since he still sounded great in the 90s. But since then he has become a very mediocre singer; yet he never seems to talk about it.
