I don't know why Tico didn't play, I hope he is OK. Playing for rich people is nothing, we know they also do weddings, at least Jon does. Money talks!
I just don't get all this animosity about Jon doing private gigs and coporate events. Many of these people are the same people that Jon goes to when he's working out fundraising for charity stuff. Why wouldn't he play events of theirs when he's asked. As for getting paid, no one knows which ones he gets paid for and which ones he donates his services for, so it's pretty unfair to bash him when all it is is speculation.
The Clinton fundraiser is no surprise at all, he's been playing at events for the Clintons for 20 years now. Although I will agree, while it's a beautiful place, it's a bit strange to hold a fundraiser there, I guess churches are branching out in their use of their properties??...

This gala was held at The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC. I don't know what other songs Jon did, but Eric Clapton also played, and there's a YT video of Hoochie Coochie Man. I'm not the MOST religious person around, but somehow that just feels a little out of place.
St. John the Divine is a special sort of place. Kermit the Frog sang there when Jim Henson died for example. It's the only cathedral in the US of it's size that has been completely hand built stone by stone. It's incomplete because work was stopped on it in the 60's. They found themselves in a part of town where people were starving and they felt guilty trying to finish the building with all the hunger around them. By the 80's they were training the people in the neighborhood to have stonecutting skills and they paid them to help finish the building. They were close to finishing about 5 years ago when a fire took out an entire wing.

More to the point - they hold all sorts of events there - even non-religious events to raise money and awareness of their building and the neighborhood. THEY wouldn't consider a rock concert out of place at all.

One of the best things that happened to that neighborhood was Bill Clinton. After leaving the Presidency he located his office in Harlem (which is where this cathedral is). The entire neighborhood has come a long way since then - including the real estate values.

I'll take your word for it, Kathleen, but after 13 years of parochial school, the idea of Hoochie Coochie Man in church just doesn't compute! LOL

On the other hand, more power to the congregation for finding a way to be relevant in the community. For many congregations, those beautiful buildings became burdens that they couldn't support and lead to their demise. I attended two beautiful old churches in St. Louis when I was a kid, and the last time I looked one had literally crumbled (both building and congregation), and the other was holding on by a thread.

Nothing against playing for fund-raising events. And about playing for rich people being paid (for a fact not speculation), is not animosity is just clear as day, music business is a business, and those that make a ton of money, will want to make more.

That's how fans should treat new stuff live!

Brazilians are probably singing Thorn as loudly as Americans sing IML. What a contrast.

EDIT: Same with LTOR:

Sounds like the poor people were expecting Bruce. How sad they must be. What a wonderful surprise for investors, though.
Yes it was a nice surprise, I was there. It's the way ron Baron was introducing them. He first made it sound like it was Bruce. he holds this every year with big name performers.

All I Want Is Everything, Helsinki 1996. I love the days when they actually play some outtakes/bonus tracks from the albums. I would've loved to hear Neurotica, Dirty Little Secret, and Nothing live.

Something For The Pain, Yokhama 96. While the acoustic version of this song is really cool, I would love to hear the actual version again.
