That makes perfect sense. I can't believe I didn't think of the connection. DUH! Thanks so much.

Richie singing IBTFY in 1996, with Jon on LEAD GUITAR.
First time Richie sung it. And Jon even did the solo. Not as good as Jon, though.

Thanks! However, I can't help but feel disapointed by this. IBTFY is a great song in general and IMO it's been one of the best live sounding songs on the 2010 tour. However in this only pro-shot video it sounds pretty weak. Ever since I became a die hard fan of Bon Jovi, I've started watching much more audience videos from shows and it made me realise that maybe Bon Jovi is just that kind of live band that sounds amazing live and that doesn't translate to pro-shot videos

It is not the first time Richie sung it. He did I'll Be There For You during Stranger In This Town tour - it was a beautiful bluesy version. Just amazing.

I quite don't understand your saying that Bon Jovi sound shit on pro-shot videos. Do I get how you meant it? There are quite a few pro-shot shows which are great. I prefer them to the official stuff like the shitty MSG DVD etc. And that is not about the quality of perforamance but the quality of editing and you can't blame them for it

Moreover, this is from a semi-official tape which was sold only in fanclub. the whole show was extraordinary and relaxed. Tico sung one song and Obie was drumming instead of him. For I'll Be There For You Richie and Jon switched their roles which is quite cool and perfectly fit such enviroment as annual Christmas shows are.

"Shit" would be too strong of a word, I think the word "weak" fits better to what I had in mind. It's just that when you see Bon Jovi live, they sound powerful. When you look at the audience videos from their shows on YouTube they still sound powerful and great, because you can still feel some of the atmosphere from amateur videos. And when you look at proshot videos of them it sounds significantly worse to me. I don't feel the energy, they instruments sound weak, Jon sounds weak, Tico sounds weak, etc. And I only apply that to more recent performances (LH-TC-GH era), because I still love listening to earlier stuff, like Giants 2001 or Melbourne from that same year is just phenomenal. And I also have in mind not just pro-shot videos, but also professional audio recordings such as extra live tracks on Special Edition releases, Obie's stuff on bj.com, etc.

I agree. Even more so on this tour over the last. For example, The NMS Movie was great and all, but Jon was way to out in front and Richie's tone is thin and is way too quiet (even though Obie had nothing to do with it). You can also barely hear the crowd. It seems the switch over to the more HD lifestyle has sacrificed some of the good qualities. Some of the SE songs are well mixed though (KTF in particular). The Obie stuff on BJ.com is awful, though.

I like the MSG DVD, to be honest. Not a great performance on some songs, but I like the production.

Why can't they just realize that Obie is a horrible mixer?

I agree - except as you pointed out - others mixed the recent TV show and it was pretty bad. It faded in and out and was all over the place.
