I saw a message wondering why is obie still around .. I think it's because Obie has a guarantied job for life. I think there are a few names in the bon jovi organisation about who I don't get why they are still used as they are not very good or very professional ...but it's like once you enter the 'family' you are in for good, even if your are not doing a proper work (I mean a good work regarding the importance of the ppl you are working for ) ......JMO but it's not just Obie ...I am still wondering what is the Alec status today and what did Alec do in real (not what is said mediatically) to get fired coz it's not excellence that is the key word to work for jovi

I was just thinking about the Alec thing the other day since jon recently said Alec "quit the business", which was the first time it had been put this way. Over the years we've heard it was because he kept messing up live, he was on drugs, he didn't want to continue working as hard as the rest of the band members did. I think it's probably a combination of all these things. It's obvious he wasn't a great musician but Jon kept him around as long as he could until he'd finally had enough. If he didn't want to improve his playing, clean himself up or continue to work hard in the band, how can they keep him? Maybe in Jon's way of thinking he did "quit the business" simply because he chose not to work at keeping a place in the band.
Why Obie is still around is another story. Maybe because unlike Alec, keeping Obie doesn't jeopardize the band as a live act? (Although he's ruined many live project releases) He's been there since day one and seems to have "tenure" along with a few others. (like Paul and Mike but at least those two seem to do their jobs well enough)
