This. The albums are undeniably awesome. The live doesn't do much for me. I completely understand why others like it, though. The 80's performances were so packed with energy. I just prefer the later performances.

Come to think of it, my Tokyo Road might be from the 80's. I know it's from the Tampa 93 bootleg, but I've heard it wasn't played at that concert. Can anyone shed some light?

Here is a video of Jon making fun of Lady Gaga & Justin Bieber live during 'the more things change'

Poor Jon.

Gaga sings better live than he ever will, and also writes better songs but hey...

She doesn't lip sync. Sure there's still some pre-recorded vocals being played in the background and she sings on top of them (hell, Jon has Richie's voice filling in for the high notes, Gaga has her own. Axl Rose too.) but absolutely no one can dance like she does and sing perfectly at the same time. Even Michael Jackson couldn't. But of course when she's at the piano, she's 100% live.

(singing starts at the 2:00 mark)

As for the songwriting, if you like Fast Cars better than Paparazzi then that's your opinion. It's certainly not mine.

Last but not least, Jon seems to pride himself with singing live but he's not exactly been really good at it since 1996 so...

I think the Tampa 1993 bootleg was the one where not a song from the show itself was actually on it, but a collection of live broadcasted songs. Tokyo Road is from the Hollywood Rock festival in Rio 1990:

It matches perfectly. The original Tampa 1993 setlist is unknown to the best of my knowledge, but Tokyo Road was only played during 4 of the Japanese shows in 1993.

Come back to me in 27 years then we'll see if your statement is true.

Thanks. That video has WAAAAAY too much unnecessary camera switching.

I noticed there that Alec's bass playing is very average. He manages to play ONE NOTE throughout the chorus and intro. I think Hugh would've made it a bit more interesting.

Jon's voice also sounds quite a bit like his voice in the KTF era.

Phenomenal performance of KTF from Shepherd's Bush in 2002. It would be awesome if Jon brought back the jungle noises again.
