He's not covering for Richie. How would he if he can't even cover for his own vocals?

No Way! Dave and Bobby aren't covering Richie's harmonies like Richie.

It seems when the harmonize together, Jon doesn't have to sing as hard and he could catch his breath for the next verse.

Listen to Always from Rio. Jon struggles through the vocal below in blue and has to keep it going as he goes through the next verse. When he does it with Richie, he could pull back a little. Plus, the song just sounds better overall with Richie's harmonies and without him, it's more painful for us to get through. It's really a combo of both and it's like that on most songs.

Check out both performance from 2013. One with and one without Richie. Richie sings on it so much more then you probably ever even realized.

"When he holds you close, when he pulls you near, When he says the words you've been needing to hear I'll wish I was him 'cause those words are mine To say to you till the end of time"

Of course it will not sound as good with Richies voice gone, as it is a major part of the sound, but he is still not covering up any Richie parts. It's not like his singing a lead and a harmony at the same time. And in Always Richie is singing a low harmony, so Jons lead is very distinct even with Richie singing harmony. In the case of Always it just comes down to Jon not being able to the song justice any more.

I think Rdkopper's point is that it's much more noticeable with Richie gone.

Man, what an awful first solo in that Cleaveland video. Like it or not, Phil did it way better in the Rio version.

Maybe JBJ needs to bring Daughtry back on tour to sing as a back up and sing Richies line in Wanted etc..... *that was a fun tour with him opening and joining JBJ on stage.

One of my favorite performances of It's My Life:

Another interesting early performance of the song (playback):

I don't get it either. It's the perfect stadium rock song and miles better than WGIGO but I guess it's a little harder to sing. Also, Dominik mentioned the fun factor this band used to have and conveyed to their audience. Coincidentally, that disappeared around the same time as OWN disappeared from the setlist. While the Bounce tour still had some amazing and energetic performances, the band began to lose its fun factor from then on.
