Actually there was some kind of pipe burst. I remember a radio interview with Obie in 2010 about the re-issues of the albums with him bragging about how many old recordings were damaged by some pipe burst and about how there was some new technology he used to fix and restore them. He said that the live version of Only Lonely stemmed from a soundcheck that was basically destroyed before.

I have no idea whether this incident included old demo recordings but, as all these New Jersey recordings seemed to be intact, I can't imagine so. If that had been the case, Obie would've bragged about restoring these "almost lost" treasures as well.

Ah jeez, my lighthearted joke might have been the case. That's rough.

Not really, if Bob did Diamond Ring in 1988

That's an interesting story... And gives me some hope that we'll get to enjoy the Golden Voice Years one day again... The question is when. The more they wait to release these thing, the more value they will continue to lose.

In addition to the Youtube thread, Jovi Talk needs to upgrade to a shared file where fans could post and share their music and treasures. Like a Google Shared Drive...

But he didn't, it says he MIXED it, not produced it.

Didn't Obie (or someone) say that for example the "finished" version of Does Anybody Really was lost/damaged and we therefor got the other version instead? Maybe more was lost over the years/in that incident

He said that those high parts from the bootleg version didn't stem from the original tapes from the demo sessions for New Jersey and assumed that the band had added them at a later point. Regarding this "later point" - that's where he stated that he has no clue as to when that happened or where the tapes from these specific sessions are.

That version is a spitting image of the Cher version so if I had to guess, that version might be something done outside the realm of the normal demo / recording process. Maybe, they did a version or something additional just for her, knowing that she was recording a final version for her album.

There are professionals hired to sing an exact version of a written song for artists who are not song writers. I've heard demos given to Elvis that sound identical to the final version that Elvis sang. The artists will even go as far as imitating the artists voice.

They must have done the "I knows" at some point in a previous version as Jon does them, albeit lower, at the end so it isn't like they weren't part of the song to begin with, he just didn't go for them on that version. It's nice to have that version though as something different, although having both would have been even better.
