Reading old threads on this forum Eric has said Jon had nothing to do with writing the version on Destination Anywhere and it was a business decision. He later reworked it to the version I posted and I cannot stop listening to it.

Wait, so Jon had no input on the DA version? What does he mean by business decision? I much prefer the DA recording. It's my second fav song on the album.

Never heard this one - thanks for posting.

This was posted in 2004 so i'm not sure what year this interview took place but:

"Here's the scoop on UGLY.... I wrote the version that's on the Bon Jovi
record by myself while my wife was pregnant with our first child. I had
also been working with Jon on his solo record and he heard the song,
loved it, wanted to record it. Putting his name on it was, well, a
"business consideration". Enough said about that. The deal we made was
that when I put it on my solo record I would leave his name off of it,
as he really had nothing to do with writing it. Besides that, when the
time came to put out The Optimist I had decided that I wanted to
re-work the song anyway, and ended up with something completely
different. Better? Who knows. But different..."

Strange, I chatted with Eric in 2012 about his work on Destination Anywhere and while he admitted the song mostly came from his original demo he also admitted that Jon was involved in arrangement and that Jon came up with the gutiar melody.

"I was totally involved in the process with “Ugly”. I had already written a version of the song which Jon heard me perform at a songwriters' show at the Bottom Line in New York. He was intrigued by the song and wanted to try adapting it for himself. We spent a day in my studio making a demo. It was actually Jon who sang me the signature guitar line which I played. We then took my demo and built on it with live drums and some overdubs but it was mostly that original demo that we'd done together at my studio."

Interesting. Thanks. Did Eric Bazillian co write/write One Of Us by Joan Osborne?

The guitar hook is a big part of that song. I much prefer the verses on the DA version too.

Rare and I think unique "electric" version of Love For Sale, played in Red Bank in 1991:

Interesting!!! TBH, I think the song is just okay anyway... The live version has more spunk but the record version is blah... I usually skip it...
