Unfortunately, these days Jon doesn't sing many of these songs, and he doesn't sing the rest of them well all the time. And I will answer why I love this even though it's a "coverband". In my case it has to do with the music - I have always loved the music and if someone is playing and singing it well, why wouldn't I love it. Do I only listen to Beethoven played by Beethoven? Nope - I listen to interpretations of Beethoven from all over the spectrum. I simply love the music.
I think Dominik is correct by saying that these guys put their own spin on this music and I admire them for it. In the end, in my opinion Jon is an excellent songwriter - he can really write some beautiful melodies. Unfortunately, these days he can't sing a lot of them so he doesn't. Why should we NOT want to hear those songs again if the original lead singer can't (or won't) sing them?
