Agreed.

Yeah, but see, no offence, I don't get this. Nowadays Jon just doesn't sound anything like the Jon Bon Jovi from the nineties, let alone the one from the eighties. There are glimpses of it every now and then, but most of it is just really nasal and whiny. The lead singer of Bounce gets closer to Jon from the nineties than Jon does. All the high "eee"s you're mentioning he's capable of actually nailing the way Jon did on the Keep The Faith and 1995 tours. Jon just isn't.

I agree that the singer of Bounce has a way higher range than Jon has (and probably ever had), and hits the notes. In certain passages he even sounds like Jon, as you said, but then in other passages he sounds so different that to me it just doesn't ring true. And what I meant with 90s/2000s with Jon is probably from 98/99 onwards, not the 80s or early 90s (which were great, too, probably even better, but I've gotten so used to Jon's later voice that I actually enjoy that more. Like it or not

And it's not just that the singer sounds different. He just sounds better, has better technique, has a better tone. It's just that so many fans have become used to whatever sound Jon is making nowadays that as soon as anyone actually does come close to Jon Bon of the past they don't seem to realize that it's that sound that made them a fan, and not the Jon, the rent-an-axe, the jukebox-clown, the bassplayerwhoshallnotbenamed, the bicycle repairman, the car mechanic and the fanclub run by Twat Bon Jovi.
|
Well, sounding better or having a better tone comes down to personal taste. Does he have a better technique? Probably. But probably he is just gifted with a very good voice. Let's hope for him that his lasts longer than Jon's.

Want to hear what any Bon Jovi song released nowadays would sound like with a 90's Jon? You just got to listen to a performance from Bounce. Always is sang better than Jon ever could. The same goes for In These Arms. Even their guitarist is as sloppy as Richie is. They got their act down well.
|
Better than Jon ever could? Nowadays. Most likely. In 94/95? No way. A cover or tribute is still that - not the real deal, even if it comes close. The remark about Richie made me smile though

All this bullshit about how "Jon has the charisma" is really just bullshit to me. I'm not there for the charisma, I'm there for the music, and the music sounds a lot better during a Bounce show than it does on a Bon Jovi show. I enjoyed their performance in a small local club certainly a lot more than the 3 hour extravaganza in Milan. Unlike a Bon Jovi show, a Bounce concert actually rocks. And if they'd mix up their set a bit more I'd certainly be willing to travel to their shows the same way I've travelled to Bon Jovi shows.

You're perfectly entitled to, but I'm there for the charisma/seeing one of my idols as well as for the music, so I probably wouldn't travel to see Bounce, but if they ever come to Berlin again (last time was in 2009 according to their website), I'll probably go check them out.
