No. He began the coaching after the Slippery tour. He did it because it was neccessary to learn to use his voice so that it could sustain a tour and not see a repeat of the Slippery tour with his voice shot to hell.
The Jersey Syndicate tour found Jon with a new and improved voice. He would hold back and let loose at just the right moments, which to me..only added to the dramatics. The live version of Blood On Blood on the New Jersey the Videos VHS (and on the official site) is a good example of that. He doesn't do it exactly as on the album. He holds back more. But when he lets loose...it's that much more effective and rewarding..without constantly having to do it.
