I think it´s clear that everyone replying to this topic means it as "In my opinion it is the best" or "In my opinion it´s not the best". So, there is such thing as best album.

It's my favorite album, so for me it's the best.

It's my favorite album along with New Jersey, but IMO These Days is the best one they have ever recorded because of the the lyrics, the music and the overall impression it produces. So I say yes.

They are so different it's hard to compare them Ice. Slippery is raw and young, These Days is introspective and (more) mature. I think that they are both outstanding for what they were in their time and place. They could not write another Slippery now nor could they write another These Days. Different time, different place in time for all of them. From the back catalogue though, the 4 middle albums stand head and shoulders above the others - Slippery, NJ, KTF, and These Days. (IMO)

No. Not at all. Forgetta bout it. No way.

When I am in that entire Coldplay, I want to jump off a bridge state of mind, then These days works for me. Other than that, give me NJ, Faith, even Crush before These Days.

yes of course it is.

Though I agree with Kathleen, it is a time and place sort of thing. For me, I got quite bored with the hair bands towards the end of the 80s and hardly listen to any of it anymore ... if then it is for nostalga reasons, not because the songs particularly touch me.

I don't think These Days is depressing either - just a lot more mature and realistic.

See, I just see it as pure cheese, as I have said numerous times on here. :P The lyrics are almost laughable to me. It is BJ trying to be someone that their not and it just doesn't work quite right. Of course this is just my opinion though.

define cheese. I don't see it as 'trying to be someone that they are not' --- some of the songs just show a lot of disillusionment (if that is a word) - something that comes with age. After all DA and Blaze of Glory have rather unfun songs as well, so I do think there is a rather sober part about Jon. All my opinion of course (as it seems we have to put this disclosure into every single post from now on )

The lyrics to me are almost laughable, at least some of them. Now don't get me wrong, BJ have lyrics that are amusing on all of their albums, but they stay true to that entire pop rock persona. With These Days, I felt like they were trying to go in a different direction, but didn't quite make it because that 80's hairband writing was still too much a part of them. Therefore although trying to be serious, it just didn't quite get there. Now, there are some songs that I love on These Days, but I think making an entire album of such songs was too much of a task.
