It isnt bad at all, is it?
It's better than a lot of albums did at the time, but it was not even certified gold in the States, so it was considered a failure in his mind and by what the industry expected from "a solo album from Bon Jovi's guitarist." He had the advantage of major exposure and name recognition. Music was changing a lot during that time frame.

Actually at this time (fall / late fall of 1991) it was changing quite drastically: Nirvana etc. was already climbing up the charts fast...I guess your chart is "average of 1991" so the first eight months or so dominate....and during the fall the new era (grunge & alternative) had started to take over fast.
