It's just as true to who Jon is to be serious and genuine when that's the way the interview is being conducted as it is for him to be silly when he's being interviewed by Graham Norton. You come across you like you think Jon's interview was just an act. You haven't even seen the majority of it, but you still come across as criticizing it. It was a great interview and it was as true to who Jon is now as something like E! Extreme Close Up in 1992 was true to who he was then... and essentially it's the same guy, just older and wiser. If you're going to question the genuineness I think you should at least watch it first.

No one even thought that this was Jon's way of doing the interview. When you see all the other interviews from the show, it's the same format. Who said that they thought it was Jon's idea to do the interview like this?

after posting this here, I didn't get a chance to watch it. So I hope it getus put up online or is shown again (which they sometimes do with some of these shows usually before a new episode is aired.)

The format of the show would have nothing to do with Jon coming off as an ass or not, and this time he didn't.

Really solid interview. Granted, there are not many stories that us diehard fans have not heard before. But, the details on Alec and why "no one will replace him" were new for me. I just think there were a lot of his takes on music and life that were presented in a fresh light. I thought it was well done.

People can complain about being bored with the "live your life" lyrics, but I think the consistency between his beliefs and the music are part of the appeal.

I just kind of got a kick out of an hour-long interview with Jon without him swearing once --and the absence of him looking exasperated at some point during an interview. It was a good format for him and he was able to make his points the way he wanted to.

Yes, it was nice what he said about leaving Alec's slot vacant as a tribute to his being there from the beginning. Although pessimists have also pointed out that Jon didn't want to have to pay royalties to a "new guy." Plus it was so rare for a band to stay together, who knows if Jon thought there were others who also leave. I think his feelings about Alec have mellowed over time. During those last months, things were pretty tense and Alec did make some statements to the media about Jon telling him that he sucked all the time and that Jon told him that no one wanted to hear what he had to say in interviews. Alec also mentioned that he didn't like Jon always writing "cowboy songs." I also recall a reporter who was interviewing Jon while Alec was waving a gun around and Jon would make a show of ducking for cover. The interviewer didn't really know if it was for real or if it was a game that was being played.
