It was a great thing they did. Those types of things really get to me... To see the less fortunate get 300 dollars worth of clothes for school and to see their faces. It had to be an amazing feeling to be there. My respect for Jon reached a new level.

It really was a GREAT show! I just watched parts of it again with my mom.

Oprah said that for the previous two weeks people had kept telling her, "Oh he's such a nice guy. You're going to love him" and her friend Gail had a Jon story--she had interviewed Jon back when she was a nobody on a Hartford station and Jon had been kind to her. You could tell Oprah was genuinely surprised by that check. The band sounded great and Jon sounded great. They did a little tour of the studio at Jon's house, a tour of Chickie and Pete's restaurant, spent some time at the children's home, and visited the fan. The interview was really interesting and I'll try to summarize it a little later on.

I also thought it was an excellent show and as someone else said on here, my respect for Jon is so much more now than it ever was, not many people with that much money do what he does. They may donate money, but he visits these kids, talks to them and really seems to feel for them. It was truly a very touching show.

So Jon Bon Jovi tries to be the next Bono or something? Maybe even the next Geldof...I could imagine that.
Of course, it's admirable what Jon does but I can tell you, there are 1000s of people who donated WAY more, who HELPED way more, who actually DID way more only they don't go directly to Oprah(who could actually change the face of Africa on her own)to show off, to tell whole America: Look, I gave this kids a computer. It's pathetic.

On the other hand, now all I hear is JBJ is so so nice and I shared a tear and stuff. But why did nobody watch this kind of shows when the President of Habitat for Humanity was there? When people from Habitat for Humanity are there? I am actually quite familiar with HFH since I am also working in the NGO sector for a while. A good friend of mine raised 5 Mil $ from Hungarian sponsors in less than one month , to build houses in Uzbekistan. Did you ever hear about it? No! But when a guy like Jon Bon Jovi or I don't know who, who really has more than he ever needs, donates like peanuts(for him), of course Television has to film it, everybody has to know about it and suddenly peole respect Jon Bon Jovi and all that. And then, people who actually stare at Jon's ass the whole day, one's of a sudden notice that there is a world out there and this JBJ is a 'godsend' and oh, how proud we have to be of him.
I repeat, helping poor people is always something good to do, even if only for some 'well-determined- reasons, like Hey, i have a new album out and Oprah audiences are pretty high and one leads to the other. I'm actually squite sure that the Oprah gig pumped more money into Jon's pocket than he donated.

Anyway, 'my respect for Jon' reaches lower and lower levels and not because he is advertising his album at Oprah, nor because he is donating like 0.3% of his fortune to poor Philadelphia Children, not even for investing into an in-door football club but because he ****in' can't sing and that's the only thing I care about.

I sooo agree.

If Jon is nice to an interviewer it's viewed as incredible. WTF? Isn't that common curtesy?

If Jon donates a million dollar, people 'gain new respect for him' - what on earth? It's what people do. Normal people do it every single day.

You want to gain respect for someone? Gain it for the vet who closed her business for an indefinite time and paid for a flight to Baton Rouge. Rented a car and works from 5am to 8pm kicking in doors in New Orleans, at 95 degrees heat, wading through hip high filthy water, rescuing dogs that were left behind by people fleeing the storm, trapped in 20 feet of water, dehydrated, starved, scared... Then working from 8pm to 2am, vetting these animals, trying the hardest to make them comfortable and keep them alive. Napping 3 hours in that same car, not takink showers for days, no hot meal for weeks. Not only does she not get paid for this, she also loses out on her revenue at home, pays for all of her equipment herself... Those are people that you should give a standing ovation for! Not somebody opening their pocketbook and emptying their change. You think she'll be on Oprah? Nah, Oprah opted to show Sean Penn on her show in a little boat full of press people... Give me a break!

You want backpacks for underpriveliged children? Applaud Wendy Cooper who actually organizes these drives.

Is it great of Jon to donate to charity? Absolutely, but you know what? I wouldn't expect any less of any human being!!
