Of course, it's admirable what Jon does but I can tell you, there are 1000s of people who donated WAY more, who HELPED way more, who actually DID way more only they don't go directly to Oprah(who could actually change the face of Africa on her own)to show off, to tell whole America: Look, I gave this kids a computer. It's pathetic.

On the other hand, now all I hear is JBJ is so so nice and I shared a tear and stuff. But why did nobody watch this kind of shows when the President of Habitat for Humanity was there? When people from Habitat for Humanity are there? I am actually quite familiar with HFH since I am also working in the NGO sector for a while. A good friend of mine raised 5 Mil $ from Hungarian sponsors in less than one month , to build houses in Uzbekistan. Did you ever hear about it? No! But when a guy like Jon Bon Jovi or I don't know who, who really has more than he ever needs, donates like peanuts(for him), of course Television has to film it, everybody has to know about it and suddenly peole respect Jon Bon Jovi and all that. And then, people who actually stare at Jon's ass the whole day, one's of a sudden notice that there is a world out there and this JBJ is a 'godsend' and oh, how proud we have to be of him.
I repeat, helping poor people is always something good to do, even if only for some 'well-determined- reasons, like Hey, i have a new album out and Oprah audiences are pretty high and one leads to the other. I'm actually squite sure that the Oprah gig pumped more money into Jon's pocket than he donated.

Anyway, 'my respect for Jon' reaches lower and lower levels and not because he is advertising his album at Oprah, nor because he is donating like 0.3% of his fortune to poor Philadelphia Children, not even for investing into an in-door football club but because he ****in' can't sing and that's the only thing I care about.

FOR SOMEONE WHO CAN'T SING HE HAS SOLD OVER 100 MILLION ALBUMS. 100 MILLION PEOPLE CAN'T BE WRONG!!!! SO MAYBE YOU JUST HAVE A TIN EAR. AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE HIM, WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON THIS MESSAGE BOARD? GROW UP AND APPRECIATE A KIND HUMAN ACT WHEN YOU SEE ONE. HE PUT A BIG SMILE ON THOSE KIDS FACES AND THAT WAS WORTH IT ALL!!!!!!!

Aloha !

It's funny how Jon always donates money to charity and stuff when the band or he is releasing a new album. Then he suddenly is in the spotlights when it comes to donating money to charity. But when there's no news from the band, where's he then? I'm sure we don't know everything when it comes to charity, but why does he feel the need to publicly tell everyone how much money he and the band donate? That's why I always have my doubts about this "generosity". Just like lately he's always doing it in Philadelphia. So suddenly. Oh wait, he bought a footballteam there...

I'm in two minds here. I sure think charity should be kept private - meaning that if you proclaim you're doing it just so that people are blinded by your halo then you're doing it more for your own sake than anyone else's.

But then again at the end of the day those kids got quite lucky and Jon did a good work.

So I'm happy for the kids, but I don't agree with the "proceedings".

Yes that vet probably should get more praise for doing that than Jon does because she really can’t afford to not work for months. But the fact is that on TV celebrities get the ratings. In the UK on shows like This Morning and GMTV they have normal people who have done extraordinary things, but they don’t get any ‘real’ celebrities on and so aren’t.the world wide industries that Oprah is.
They also have awards for normal people ho have done something good- I can’t remember the name of them but they award people like carers, disabled people and people who have saved lives. But they get nowhere near the amount of coverage that the Oscars and the Baftas get because they’re aren’t any celebs.

The fact is that celebrities get the coverage because secretly we all awn to be like them- we want to be rich, or be famous, or not have to work. Look at Kate Moss she has being caught doing cocaine and whilst any normal person would have been arrested and had their child taken away, she is get tons of publicity and is on the news headlines along side hurricane Rita! Yes she has been dropped by some companies, but all she has to do is go to rehab, at least pretend to get herself cleaned up and then sell her story and make shed loads of cash and get the sympathy vote- in a few years people will be saying ‘’Oh yes she made a mistake, but who hasn’t? She new she was wrong, got herself cleaned up and came out on top. She’s a fighter!’’ It’s disgusting! They are already using these ‘SHE’S A FIGHTER!’ clichés now!

Uhm, no. I don't want to be like any celebrity. If I'd want to be like Jon for example, I wouldn't think he's one big gimp now would I? That's just a load of crap.

It was generous for Jon & the band to make this donation, but they could just have easily given Oprah the cheque behind the scenes and not broadcast it to the world. But that wouldn't have got the publicity would it?

I don't see the point in arguing anymore with the oh so cool piss and moaners here, but this thread is just pissing me off too much.

This innocent girl makes a simple statement praising Jon for what she thought was an incredibly generous gesture on his part, and she's getting crapped on by the same people who always have something to bitch about when it comes to Jon.

Seriously, leave the girl alone to say what she wants, and just shut the **** up. There - How's that for free speach???????

Do you guys think sounding like a bunch of tough, rough neck assholes makes you look cool or above average intelligence to everyone else here?

BTW - Spunky, "How old are you?" WTF does that have to do with anything? Because she has adifferent point of view than yours, is she supposed to just be a kid or something? Could you possibly be any more lame? Go see a doctor. Noone is supposed to be PMSing 24-7.

HAVE A NICE DAY!

I think the money thing was just as much about promoting Oprah as it was about Jon. If you noticed, the kids in Philadelphia first said "thank you Jon", then "thank you Oprah", which lead me to think Oprah gave money too. Plus, weren't the computers compliments of computer company?

I don't know, maybe it was just me, but I thought Jon seemed a bit embarrassed by Oprah's gushing. I mean, she'd only been talking to him 10 minutes, and declared "I knew I was going to like/love you".

I think the whole thing was a bit over the top, and I'd like to know who decided that the $1,000,000 cheque would be presented on air, Jon, who usually keeps his charity work private, or Oprah who, without a doubt has a huge heart when it comes to charities, but also loves to get publicity giving stuff away. I mean, could she have made a bigger deal about the cheque? BTW, Jon clearly stated that the $1,000,000 was from the band and that Richie, Tico and Dave were a big part of it too.

And, for what it's worth, I think it's nice that "we" got to see that some of the money "we're" given to the band over the years is goes to help the less fortunate.
