Check out part one of his look back on the These Days record. Incredible album and an incredible piece of writing.

It's a beautiful, and well-written article, that does hit most of the points of what makes TD special. I don't agree with all of it, but it is well done.

I meant to comment about this yesterday. It's a wonderful piece of writing - it's nice to see someone "get" this album the way I seem to. It's also refreshing to read a positive review of this band, though I know the writer is a fan.

I can find lots of things to criticize them for, but very few people actually admit that they like this band let alone give the music a good review.

Aloha !

Though he's a good writer, I find most of his stuff very boring and way too, just like this article. It just sums up a shitload of facts as a lead in, things Bon Jovi fans already know (so why bother writing it down when it's Bon Jovi fans that read them?) while non Bon Jovi fans will find all the things rather uninteresting. He just comes across as a fanboy who tries to give the album These Days a deeper meaning than it actually has, just like many people tend to do over here. It's just another Bon Jovi with a bit more socially relevant lyrics than what they used to come up with. That's all, really.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Great read! And someone loves the album as much as I do... There were also some details about the recording that I didn't know... Curious about part 2.

But with some gorgeous melodic music - and I think that's why I really like the album. There are lots of other bands I could listen to if I want socially relevant lyrics.

Yeah, it's the music that makes the album great. I agree with the review: It feels like a live environment, it's really breathing, and you never heard that on any other BJ album like on this one. The lyrics are very good too, I've never thought of them as being super socially relevant, I mean, most of the songs are about love anyway, but they are delivered with a raw passion that really hits me. Whatever they were taking back then, it was damn good.
