Default Overanalysing Bon Jovi?

As most of you know, I'm a guy who does pretty much like most of the things the band has ever done. To some of you that makes me a "blind follower" but to me, shit, it's just means I like this music a lot.

The new single's really grown on me and while it has its flaws, I think it's the best single they've released this decade. But I always enjoy something new from Jovi when it comes out, the proof I guess is how often I listen to the full album afterwards (lost highway none at all, HAND a lot)

If this single had been released in 1999 before I'd been on the internet, I wouldn't have questioned the songs flaws. I may not have even gave a thought about why there was no guitar solo. And I'd have gone on my merry way just enjoying the song for what it was, probably not even comparing it to the other Jovi stuff, just as something new from the band I love.

So I guess my thoughts are - is analysing each track in every minute detail actually spoiling what the music is or should be? Are we guilty, in our own different ways, of destroying the thing for us that brought us here in the first place?

I completely agree with you on this pal, i check out this site a fair bit but dont really post a lot, but some of the things i read in disbelief at how nasty and over the top some peoples reactions are. I wonder why they're here, why they feel the need to post nothing but negative things, theres enough of that in the world anyway, its just music, its meant to be fun and enjoyed.

The internet has a lot to answer for, before when you were waiting for an album by your favourite band you heard nothing untill it was released and enjoyed it when it was, it does'nt really matter if you don't like all the songs, on a Jovi album there is always something for everyone, and i think the new single is truely fantastic, all these people ripping it apart, if you don't like it fine, but leave it at that, stop getting nasty about things, its just music. Bon Jovi are amazing really when you consider how they constantly come back fresh, that must be so hard to stay relevant, theres not many bands out there that can do that, i get so annoyed at the lack of recognition this band gets when you consider bands like U2 that come out with an album that sounds like the Kaiser Chiefs having a massive car crash.

Its a shame really that quite a few people on here feel this way........who's this Seb guy anyway, he seems like a proper dick, bye folks.

The sheer resistance Bon Jovi shows in the face of 25 years of changing music never fails to impress me, they never wrote to impress critics but for the fans. By overanalysing some of the anthems that they wrote just for their listeners to feel good ruins the magic. Sure, theres some similarities between songs like IML and HAND but they're still good songs.

Yes. A lot of people's opinions often seem over the top in my opinion, looking at each detail of a song. I just judge on whether I enjoy the song/album and that's it.

I totally agree with you mate. All the overanalysing is just so depressing. They are so many negative people on the net that seem to enjoy putting things down for pure hell of it. Yes its good to have different opinions and not everyone should agree to wether or not a song is good otherwise it would really become boring. However its the nastiness that comes when someone dares to disagree with another. Why can't people just learn to agree to disagree?

Completely agree. Some people would be picking fault with a Bon Jovi album the equal to The Beatles' Abbey Road. Simply put, it is easy to pick fault. They're not going to produce another album similar to what they did 15 years ago. Time to accept it and either move on, or shove off.

Fully agree, and that's not just because we are both Scottish!

The way I see it is the band are trying to stay current whilst trying new styles themselves. Should we be glad that they are still making music? Of course we should. Should we appreciate that they are artists and deserve respect for their efforts? Of course we should. Society, as I see it is full of these negatives and of course there are people out there that are just ready to put you down and crush you. But what are Bon Jovi songs about? Hope, direction, opportunity, optimism to name a few. So my advice is don't let people change your mind. If you like the song then good on you. If you don't then feel free to say so but calling it "shit" and a "worthless" piece of music is just the bottom of low. Try telling it's shit to the hundreds and thousands of people who will go see them live next year and probably love most of the new album!

This is the kind of BS new fans seem to post, and I just don't get this. I've never settled for mediocrity, why should I now?

I know the band is capable of much better, why should I settle for something less?

If you're happy with what their doing now, fine. I'm not. And I'm allowed to voice my opinion, just like you are. Don't come here telling others they should "shove off" or shut up or whatever. If you don't like what you see here, you're free to go somewhere else. I, and many other "old" fans won't settle for just "ok" stuff. We've lived the time when Bon Jovi produced quality albums one after the other. Why shouldn't we expect the same now?

It's like saying the sex was once great, now it's almost ok, but you shouldn't expect anything more after 5/10/15 years. That's not the way it goes.
