This is the part of the interview for reference:

NRR: First things first, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. You got to get up on the stage and play at the Rock Hall. What was it like?

Phil X: It’s kind of funny cos you feel like an outsider, cos now you have the original line up. And then when you come in, and you know we rehearse and everything, but once you get on that stage you kind of feel like “am I even supposed to be here?” kind of thing. But at the same time, my family was there and my mom was there, my wife was there, my son was there, my brother was there, so it was kind of like an incredible moment that I got to share with family. So, that part of it is awesome. And musically you’re up there kind of like “wow….” You don’t feel like quite the same obviously as an original member, and I never will be and I accept that. And I accept that when I play live. When I’m on stage and people are like hey, where’s Richie, I’m like whatever, you know. Talk to Richie! He’s the one that split. But at the moment, I’ve created a space for me in the band when we play live and it’s home now. It feels like ok, I’m up here and I kick ass every night and I sing my brains out and I play my brains out and I work the crowd, I’m doing my job. Now, I’ve got like this much room and there’s the original line up and John Shanks to my left, and I’m like ok I need elbow pads like hockey or something, right. I’m like ok, just do your thing, man, it’s all good. And it was fun. I had the hair whips in and I got a solo in the new song, so you know. But it was weird, I had to flip switches. I don’t want to be the guy on the stage cos I don’t want to take attention away from the guys, you know. And Richie did all the solos, so I’m like “how does this rhythm go cos I play solos every night?”

Let's be fair, it was Richie the person inductee so of course he deserved to be the focus of attention; if it was weird for Phil or not to be honest nobody cares lol; that night belonged to BON JOVI (inductees).
Exactly. And he DID complain - a lot. Especially for someone who had nothing whatsoever to do with getting the band on that stage to begin with. He whined about how crowded the stage was, the way Richie played, having to learn to play the rhythm because "I play solos every night" (solos that were written by...oh yeah, the guy who DID play them that night, tyvm)...
And that was just about the Induction. Throughout the entire interview, any mention of Bon Jovi (with the exception of playing LOAP live, I think) sounded whiny and somewhat disrespectful, imo. Maybe it's because he prefers talking about The Drills, which would be understandable; but that doesn't mean he should be negative about the "other" band he's currently with.

All I can say is if he wasn't complaining, I'd sure hate to hear what he has to say if he really starts bitching!

Completely disagree with your take on it. To me it sounded like he was questioning his own right to be there all through the whole thing, but then his family was there etc. so he had to endure.

To me it looked very humble and not whiny at all. F.ex. to me when he said Richie played the solos and he learned the rhythm he sounded insecure on if he got it right - not like he wanted the solos.

This board will make drama out of paint drying - if there is Jon or Richie involved

EDIT: Also, I mean no disrespect. I am not saying my take is better than yours, but on a second read through it might sound like it. I don't mean it. I am just offering a different take that to me, was obvious.

I am one that agrees with your take and was going to post the same.

Nah, I didn't take what you said that way at all. I also didn't see it as Jon-Richie drama. I might have felt differently if he hadn't managed to complain about something in almost everything he said about Bon Jovi during the interview: short notice, having "about 30 seconds off the leash" on stage, Jon and Shanks wanting him to play stuff forty-leven different ways in the studio, Jon having no concept of days off...

Don't get me wrong, I don't have a thing in the world against Phil-X. He's funny, he's a great guitarist, he interacts with fans, he has a lot of stage presence... I was just surprised by (what I interpreted as) his negativity, particularly when he usually seems to put a positive spin on most things.

But as I said, in the original discussion of this article on another thread, maybe he was having a bad hair day. And with all that hair, that could make for a really bad day.

Phil X is what Jon deserves as a guitarist. Great find!

I think Phil in this interview came across a little egocentric, and that’s okay but when we’re talking specifically about the Hall of Fame thing I would expect more respect for Richie; and also more respect for JBJ about his requirements...

I mean without them, probably this interview wouldn’t exist.
